a thought for another board
« on: November 06, 2009, 10:31:11 PM »
just a thought ive had for several months now

on pho there is a history board to say hi and leave your story etc and then there is the other boards lab rec pa alt etc

but there isnt anywhere really to post for the im clear ( or relativly clear ) status

im not saying a whole board but mabye a child board like the locations section would be a idea so people can post there storys or just syaing they are clear/clearish
my thinking is it would give hope/inspiration to everyone to at least see there is a chance of getting clear

good idea?  bad idea ?

Hi Darren,
I agree in principal, totally. But I am not sure that many folks would use it. It is human nature to not bother coming here when you are OK but spend much time here when in need of help/support.  :-[

Cheers,
Daniel.

I think it's a nice idea Darren, I was virtually clear in the Summer Hols but didn't post because it was an inexplicable clearing (apart from leaving my job ;)) and was worried the moment I said I was clear it would come back! Sadly it has but hey ho I enjoyed it while it lasted 6 weeks clear in 20+ years was a lovely p holiday :) I wonder if I'd have posted if there was a child board? or a sticky in the History/Rec room?
Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing...

I started a good stories stuck thread in the PA board for those who have good expereinces of their drugs ie where  if not painfree pleased with the result.

I thought like you it would be a good idea to hear about the drug successes to counterbalance the many problems we hear about. People do achieve good results that it would be good to hear about.

The stuck thread has had some success but there is a tendancy for people to post "bad" stories rather than the good ones to inspire us all. I either split out the topic into a seperate thread or delete it after a certain time has passed so that only the good satisfied customers are left!

I think it is a good idea if only to show that remission can be achieved and that p can be managed very effectively whether by inexplicable reasons or following treatment. It would give people encouragement and some hope whilst at the same time explaining what methods were used. I think it would be a very informative Board and a good term of reference.

Daniel has a fair point about people generally coming here to post primarily when they need help but I don't think that should detract from the message of posting a good news story, which we all like to hear about.

Good idea imo Daz and should be considered  :)

I don't think we need a special board however, I do think those who are not needing supported themselves should spend some quality time in answering questions for those still suffering!

I'd feel a little like "I'm gloating" if I had a board at the moment whilst I am relatively clear and would it mean that you detract attention away from the boards which need maximum input?

i wouldnt ( and id hope noone else would ) see it as gloating liz far from it more that when we are clear/clearer we are sharing our experinces of it esp to new members joining

but tho seing kates reply it would mean alot of extra work for the mods

unless it was a locked topic which members could pm their story so the mods could apply it that way might me more managable that way

as i said just a thought mainly to show members/new members that you can get clear/clearer with the weatlh of knowledge on pho

i could wittle on for hours

I think it's a good idea, I remember when I joined and was about to start MTX I kept reading about bad experiences people had with it and it scared me to death until my husband pointed out to me that people do only tend to talk about bad ones rather than good ones. With the p it's the same sort of thing, you often read new members posting along the lines of "I'm nowhere near as bad as you lot so I shouldn't be here" sort of thing, we do need to think about encouraging new members to understand that it has it's ups and downs and make it clear that everyone is welcome here whether they have one little spot or complete coverage, and I'm sure also for new members, especially those who are new to p, it would be extremely helpful to be able to read the good stories and not just the bad.

Personally I think it is a great idea. People dwell on the bad side of life too much these days. It would be nice to have a thread with all good reports and views.
Well that's my opinion anyway  ;) ;D

It would also be a good idea if members took some time to welcome newbies.

It's nice to feel welcome after you register and as guest's can read the welcomes, it may encourage more to join.

That is the thinking behind the History Board: people can write about themselves and their personal history with P and, by dint, introduce themselves to PHO...then PHO people can say hi and welcome them along.

It is sometimes difficult for newbies to launch themselves into a thread when they haven't posted before...the History Room is a perfect ice-breaker.

Yes it works, but i think more members should go and say welcome to new members, it don't take long to say Hi. so come on members check out history Board each time you log on and welcome all the the new members.

There is nothing worse than plucking up the courage to say a bit about yourself, and only getting a couple of reply's.

Go and look now, and say welcome.

Could we not have a Newbie Board - rather than, or as well as a history board - that way newbies could perhaps just say hello rather than feel they have to tell all... Just to say they are new - give us all a chance to say hello and then take it from there. Just a thought

Great idea, some people might not want to tell their story, but just say hello.

I think thats sort off like the first thread in the history room, where new members can vote how they found pho and just say Hi.?
I do remember my first 'hello' posts on here way back and it was pretty daunting, but such a relief just to find other sufferers

as a newbie I'm still finding my way round here and finding my feet with posting on the right boards etc,This was my first time to ever post on any forum so the whole concept is new to me but pretty much straight away I got responses from you all and that was  ;D. You are so right that it's really important just to say hi if nothing else to new members as that is what has kept me coming back here this week! (and I've still got so much to explore!)  I sent my first post last sat not knowing if I'd get any comments or get ignored etc but then thought "what do I have to lose?" I havn't been on here long enough to comment on how it is run or modified but I wanted to drop in and say as a new member I'm pretty overwhelmed at the support and 'hugs' I've found here..... Keep it up!

i will totally agree about being welcomed.

i havent been here long ,but from the responses and  comforting chit chat i honestly feel like i've been here for ages.

the support makes this 'one big family' and put me at ease knowing we 'all' have a very similar problem.

it really is hard talking to people who dont understand what we put up with in day to day living

luv ya all
