How about an Adult Chat Board and a 'normal' Chat Board. Then, those that wanna post smutty, porn related stuff can do so.

 ???

G'day Chris & All Members,

I've yet to read anything on this site that could be interpreted as "smutty, porn related stuff" - At least not by my understanding of the terms - But then again - I'm an Aussie & UK culture is a little different - In some quarters.

I've definately seen nothing pornographic - And the word 'smutty', even though rather tame in its true meaning, does conjure up thoughts of something filthy & degrading that is expressed in an explicit manner.

The word that I think best describes some member's posts, including mine, is risque.

I have complete faith that the Mods would very quickly remove any post that fell into the "smutty, porn related stuff" category - And would applaud them for doing so.

I've had one post removed by Mods that I'm aware of - A picture of jiggling bare-breasts, with the nipples covered - It was an animated joke & I felt that it was in good taste - However, I agreed with the Mod's decision to remove it - Although, whilst recently delving into the bowels of the forum's archives - I discovered that bare breasts, with nipples exposed, were posted as far back as the end of 2002 - However, I still think the decision to remove my post was fair & I did not object to the decision in any way.

When I joined the forum back in September 2003 - It is my belief that the boards contained far more risque posts than they do now.
Also, going through the archives, it is apparent that highly risque posts were common from the end of 2002.

Now that in itself does not make risque posts right or wrong - However, it does highlight that a risque culture has existed in Chit Chat for a long time - With only a minimal amount of objection being made to it - Given that it is very easy for someone to register their complaint by reporting a post that they feel is offensive - By hitting the report button.

In regards to my posts it is even easier to have them removed - Just IM me & it will be removed immediately - Without any animosity whatsoever.

It is also of interest to note - That the majority of members who engage in risque posts - Are fairly long term members - (Some of whom have small children *ducks* ) - Which also highlights that is the culture that they have been conditioned to in Chit Chat for a long time.

I have no desire to 'pollute' children's minds with "smutty, porn related stuff" -  With that in mind - I do try & camourflage most of my risque innuendo in such a way that a child is highly unlikely to pick up on it (as I'm sure most members do) - And if a child does pick up on it - I'd suggest that their minds have already been 'polluted' to have known what it meant.

I doubt that an "Adult Chit Chat Board" would be successful - As I feel it would fracture the comradre that exists in the Chit Chat environment - Also the decision of policing what is risque & what isn't would be a very difficult one indeed - And I'm sure that the Mods themselves would not be in agreeance with each other on what is risque & what isn't - It really comes down to an individual's own personal interpretation - But I'm happy to go with the flow of any decision that is made.

Perhaps it is a question that should be put to the members by way of a poll??

Perhaps - "Do you think that there is a need for an Adult Chit Chat Board, given the content of some of the Chit Chat Board posts."

*This post is made in good faith - And is not intended to be aggressive or offensive to anyone*

Well said mate - I agree that a separate Adult board is not the way forward. This would effectively condone "smutty" posts and I'm sure they would therefore get worse. At the moment, despite the complaints there is no profanity, pornography, nudity or sex but that might change.

Can I point out that children can have access to far worse stuff on the Internet than a couple of dirty jokes?

In my opinion, the jokes and pics in chit chat don't go as far to be labelled 'porn'. I have quite strong opinions about porn, but I also do about censorship. I believe that stopping access to one thing only increases the need for it!

I agree - an adult only board is not the way forward.

I've been a member here for about a year and it seems
that the existing self-censorship works pretty well most
of the time.  We have entrusted the Mods with the job
of withdrawing anything which they, on our behalf, feel has
overstepped the mark.  Leave that final process with them
in complete faith.

I understand that the words "member", "withdrawing" and
"feel" may be removed from this post, thereby rendering it
useless.

It's a risk that l am willing and ready to  take    ;D

Is there not as much inuendo on the Simpsons, Hollyoaks and Eastenders, and most kids watch these. They are seeing nothing new to them on the chit chat board.
Theres no point in getting stressed - It does nothing for you!

Dear All,

First can I thank all who have commented on this subject and for your patience whilst this was discussed at great length by the Moderating Team.

Having looked at all the arguments for and against the formation of a second chit chat board or adult chat board we have unanimously agreed not to implement this idea. Our main reason for this is the simple fact that PHO was set up to promote Psoriasis Awareness and the Chit Chat Board was set up not as the main focus of the site but as an optional extra to help those affected by Psoriasis to relax and chat among other sufferers. It is felt by the moderating team that this balance should be maintained otherwise the the aims of this website may well be lost amid a flurry of non Psoriasis related posts.

Whilst it is appreciated that many of the regular posters on here use the Chit Chat Board as a means of relaxing with other Psoriasis sufferers it is worth pointing out that many more Psoriasis sufferers read and post in the various Discussion Boards that this Site has to offer. This, as I have stated, has and always will be the first and foremost objective of PHO.

In the event that anyone would like to discuss this decision with any of the moderating team please feel free to contact any of us and we will do our utmost best to answer any questions that arise. May I also take this opportunity to remind everyone  that should you feel offended in anyway by any post on PHO please use the Report function in the top right of the post.

I hope that you will all understand our decision and again thank you for your views and patience in this matter.

Nick, On Behalf of PHO Moderating Team
