A Bot is usually found in large chat programs like IRC , its as one put it a computer generated person to add to that rooms amount of people , reason is to keep a room open on these programs even when everyone leaves (say middle of night) ,thus the room does not have a period of inactivity again for reasons for keeping mods in chat and things like that active.
I dont really think the chat here requires it
Maggie the BOT you were talking to was prolly somebody looking for fun , many folk these days pretend to be a bot and talk and answer back but beleive me its not real , just folk taking the pee hehehehe
