Debate and discussion board
« on: January 30, 2008, 12:31:42 AM »
I've noticed that some other forums have a debate and discussion room where members can discuss and debate the pros and cons of topical ideas, news or events etc, in a serious fashion.  For example some people believe that men landed on the moon, or that the holocaust happened. Perhaps it would be a good idea to set up a debating room on the forum where issues can be seriously discussed in a civil manner.

we do tend to use chit chat for that but it usually ends up as a full scale war as we are all so topical and different viewed

The main focus of PHO is psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

CC was added for some light relief.

I would say the only real problems we ever encounter on PHO start in Chit Chat...people take offence easily in there...I cannot imagine what trouble a serious or emotive debate in there would cause...

...PHO cannot be all things to all people.

Surely a forum specifically devised and created for discussion and debate would be better than one tacked on to a forum devised and created for the discussion of all things psoriasis?

My opinion....see what others say?

Any time there is a 'serious' subject which could be properly debated,I have found recently that it deteriorates into flippant remarks which lead to personality clashes, offensive personal remarks, and in increasingly cases of 'cyber' bullying.

It has already been said that this is a family forum for P and PA sufferers.....the chit chat board is supposed to be for friendly, light, and humorous banter, but again, recently, even this is being seriously misused.

There are hundreds of forums online where particular 'needs' can be catered for.

I would like to think that this forum is used for the purpose it was intended, and recent events are quickly put behind us,and we get back to enjoying it's prime function.

Just my thoughts  :)

mystery...i can understand where you are coming from... i like a good discussion or debate and i think any civil subject can be posted  in chitchat and discussed....it might change the tone in there... :D...

i like silly, humourous, informative and serious..i'm not prejudiced..

i don't believe in  temper tantrums, personal sarcasm.. ::) which i have a tendency toward  or righteous indignation..but a good discussion is positive and i like to know what other people think especially from other countries.

so, if you are inclined..start a subject... :D
