Ignore *.*
« on: June 12, 2007, 07:50:21 PM »
On reflection of the comings and goings that happen on PHO, and I am specifically talking about Chit chat although there have been some traumas on other boards in the past. I was wondering if it was possible to add an ignore facility - sort of opposite to the buddy option. I know there is an ignore list in PM options; but I mean an option that will make certain members posts invisible. In life if we don't like someone, or they bully us, or we just really don't ever agree with their views; we would distance ourselves from that person. However on PHO we cannot do that and there have been instances of certain members being 'followed' around and derogatory posts being made after each of their posts. I have seen such a thing on other boards, and although many would believe that we are all supposedly grown up and should learn to ignore it ourselves, as we know low self esteem also seems to be a fairly horrible side effect of the p for more than a few people.
I'm not sure if this is important but I have not been a victim of these sorts of things, but I think have seen one too many members leave because of it. It leaves a nasty taste each time and I just feel that if the ability was there it would deter trolls, bullies and the like.

Just a thought :)

Good idea.

as someone who at the moment seems to be the target of a nasty bully I would certainly welcome it.

This forum is for people who struggle with a condition/disease that can be physically and emotionally draining to the point it can affect relationships, work, friendships and generally day to day basics.

Its strange how a forum like this can produce people who like to use bully tactics?
I am only new but have the opinion that this forum is set up to bring together people who suffer from a condition that can affect life in so many ways.
If any future member is to pick up on such hostality then it might make them think twice about registering? It took me a few days to build up the courage to register and when I finally did it was almost a weight off my shoulders.
To anyone of longetivity on the forum this might seem nothing, but just look at the amount of "guests", are these future members who just need that courage just like I did? It can be a daunting task just to admit that you have this illness to other people!

Rant over cheers Glynn ;)

Really sad that something like this even has to be considered  :(

A lot of forums employ '3 strikes and you're out' and stick rigidly to it.Certainly has reduced the problems to almost zero  :-\

Hi All

Please keep this in perspective. Bullying is a strong word and in the 7 years that the forum has been running we have only ever had a few incidents where we have needed to take action. There are many different people in the world and a subset of these people use this forum. What one person thinks is odd behaviour, invasion of privacy or rudeness will be considered by others freedom of speech, a strong personality, or even funny.

This is not to say that we do not take issues such as this seriously, we do, and all reported posts or Instant Messages are investigated.

The aim of this site is to provide a safe place for people to seek help and advice, free from harassment. To create an environment for people to share their views and treatments that may have helped them live with this disease. If it is felt that any message within the forum contravenes these ideals they will be deleted without question and the offender will be banned.

A member recently posted some rude comments about another member and has been banned for 30 days as a result. If they continue they will be banned permanently.

We certainly wouldn't want to put off sufferers by having them think this is a big issue that happens all the time, it doesn't.

Thanks

Thankyou mods team, we now know you are taking care of your current members, but like I have said before, look at the amount of guests we have looking at the forum! Is there any way we could attract more people to become members? Maybe this would help fellow sufferers and expand the knowledge of treatments and alternatives available in treating our disease! Acceptance can be half of the battle! ;)
