Aye, point taken  ;)

I was just trying to say if they are guests (not members), they could be put off by any hostility on the forum.

I'll stop digging now before the hole caves in :D

OK so I wanted to reply this morning but I thought I'd leave it until this evening as I believe it requires a little more than a quick answer:

Glyn as you will see form my original post I was specifically thinking of Chit Chat when I thought of unpleasantness; guests have no access to Chit Chat so would not understand my comments however they could not be put off joining as they would be gleefully unaware. But I totally agree with your original 'rant' (just saying what we all know ;))

Please keep this in perspective. Bullying is a strong word...
My apologies Mods and for the clarification of you and any guests that may read this board; I work in an infant school with 4-7 year old's and they have a caliber of bullying to which the incidents in the Chit Chat board resemble in maturity and MO. Name calling, tale telling, badgering and petty jealousies to name but a few ??? All things that I feel could be un-copeable for certain members who, as Glyn has stated, have a hard time feeling accepted in this world. I just felt it was a possibility that this could be overcome by the ignore option - meaning tale telling and badgering would be all but eradicated  - giving the option of 'banning' certain members to the individual members themselves.

The enormous majority of members of PHO are fabulous individuals that either want to help or get help from like minded people. It is a sad fact of life that there are some people whose sport of choice is winding people up or belittling others to make themselves feel better. They need help too.

Oh! and I don't know if this is relevant but, I just also wanted to say that I have not been asked to start this discussion (If I wanted a discussion I'd have posted in Chit Chat and the thread would be 7 pages long by now ;)) I was flitting between forums I am a member of and was mulling over the differences (I know I think far more than is healthy).

And finally to reiterate to any non members - please join there is no place quite like PHO to get fantastic advice, oodles of info and "this is what worked/didn't work for me" and finally there are some wonderful peeps on here that I now call friends that I would not know were it not for these boards.

Modified to add: Ali/ Nicky I see your point about the thread title but I won't change it as I only really wanted the mod team to see it and they have...job done!! ;D ;D

Emerald you are fantastic, this site is marvellous, Alisaca you are fantastic, can I stop now before people start crying!

No really,I have been going through abit of a sh#t time with my P at the moment........off work with flexural P, and this forum and its members have put things in perspective and made me realise I am not on my own, like I have said before we are all here for the same problem and sharing thoughts, opinions and ideas helps us mentally aswell as physically.
So glad I found this forum ( just have to put up with scowls from wife about spending too much time on pc)

PS...Is Darren on the forum the same Darren off hollyoaks? bit of a likeness me thinks ;)

I do wonder if "an ignore function" would be used for inappropriate behaviour? I am thinking that the popular bully not only ignores someone they don't like, they get all their clique to ignore the same person as well. A less obvious form of bullying but far more sinister in my book :(

Andi, I am not sure how you would percieve this to affect the ignored person - you do not recieve a PM saying "x has just put you on ignore" the ignoree would be blissfully unaware of such 'bullying' tactics and therfore it would be a useless campaign. All it does is removes your abiliy to see posts from the person you have chosen to 'put on ignore'  therefore  if you can't read it it cant upset you. Bit like when people complain about a tv programme and everyone says "you know where the off switch is!"
