Karma system
« on: May 11, 2009, 07:25:35 AM »
Guessing this is the right place to do this!!

The Karma system is like the post count and forum status, some people take it serious, so people don't.  Personally, I couldn't give a toss about any of them!

However, I can see where stress and depression, mixed with low confidence and low-esteem can have an effect on a person's wellbeing.  Judging by some of the feedback on the Chit-Chat board, people do have a serious issue with it.  Again, as cited, cliques will have the facility to gang up on other cliques, targetting individuals, leading to bullying and harassment.  Karma also has the potential to be used against a person rather than the topic, and others may use their other PHO identities to boost themselves and genrally diss others.

So on reflection, I think the negatives outweight the positives, and the Karma system should be smited into oblivion!

Peter  :)

I agree with you, Peter, I'm not smitten with the Karma system, either.  :D

I said it was a daft idea on a thread yesterday, and then I was zapped with a smite (I bet

it was one of the Mods, lol).  ;D ;)

I couldn't care less how many smites/applauses that I may get.  I find it rather juvenile

and, personally, wouldn't waste my time using the Karma button.  :)

I agree with what has already been said.  I think it takes away all the good things on the forum.  I don't care if I a smited to hell and back or applauded up to heaven, but I feel it akes away the credibilty of what people are saying on their posts - As soon as I logged on yesterday I was smited - how immature when the idea, I understand was to use it to agree/disagree with what a member was saying.  In my opinion, it just give those who use this forum to intimidate others another way of doing it.
Around Christmas there was a very upsetting thread on here from someone who was suicidal , and lots have posted about low self esteem and depression.  This function just does not fit with this forum.

I agree with everything that has been said here.
I think it should be got rid of, and sooner rather than later.

Diane

Basically you can click on applaud or smite - if you had 4 then it went to 3 someone smited you - if it went back to 4 - someone applauded you.

Ahhh I see now. So if someone hits smite they don't like what you say. But if they hit applaude they do.
Right it's sunk in now
See it only needs to be explained in SIMPLE lay man's terms  ;D ;D ;D ;D
Thanks Joan

All

Thanks for the feedback, the Karma add on to the forum was supposed to be a bit of light heated fun but we can see that most of you are not happy with it. We will start a poll on the feedback board to give others a chance to give thier views.

Thanks

I dunno about this. The karma thing is there to reflect what someone has said on a particular topic; not a reflection on them surely. It offers a means to display some disagreement with what someone says rather than having a stand up row which has caused problems in the past. For example, I saw my Karma plummet last weekend when I suggested that the new Star trek film was no good; -6 at one point, but I didnt think this meant I was personally disliked. Id rather have some bad karma than have a whole thread disappear as has happened in the past.I think we can tolerate us some differences of opinions on - surely this is the sign of a healthy forum.

System is being used as I thought it might, peeps will take in personally, even if a smite is meant in jest. I have seen on other places argeeing with the post, not the poster. Makes things less personal.

i wasnt even on here and i was in negative - proves someone out there doesnt like me

and guess what

I dont give a poop  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

good luck to you for doing it as you just wasted your time and energy by pushing the little button on your mouse  :P ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think as some have said the groups of people that have their cliques could use this against the more vulnerable of the forum and I think its been removed

and the only time i applauded was things that were said to me on PM anyway LOL

 ::) is that how its supposed to be used  ??? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
