Tim, now that I realise the real human effort that pho means, I wonder if what you told me it`s written somewhere on the homepage and i didn`t see it.......I just looked again and didn`t see anything about it.
General public`s attitude  - including the new members like me - might be different from the first minute if it would be written somewhere...........
That means from time to time some1 will have to answer a question like mine ......

Your right Adrian it's only mentioned in the board rules and you have a point about making more clear.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Adrian/All

Thanks for the feedback.

You are quite right, it is probably not clear enough on the main web site. It does state on the board  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and in the  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login the following:

Advertising and Promotional Message Posts

This Web Site has a strictly imposed acceptable use policy.

This is a totally non profit-making site and does not accept any advertising. Members of this forum should not be able to profit from their membership by advertising or selling products to other members. Advertising or Spamming in the forum will not be tolerated at any level. This includes posting messages with email addresses or web site addresses from which the member can profit.

Any promotional posts in the forum by merchants or their representatives will result in the person responsible being banned from the forum and their message(s) being deleted. Whenever someone leaves a message in the forum their IP address is recorded allowing them to be banned from the forum if they abuse this service.

The aim of this site is to provide a safe place for people to seek help and advice, free from harassment. A place to share views and treatments that may have helped them live with this disease. If it is felt that any message within the forum contravenes these ideals they will be deleted without question and the offender will be banned

I do fund the site myself and it is run with the help of a few great volunteers i.e. the Mods & open source software that I have adapted for our use. As I did not write the software but just maintain & modify it, it’s not always easy to change things. I agree the search function is fairly poor but there is very little I can do about that at the moment. We currently run version 1.1 of the software and the team that develop it are in the process of writing version 2. When this comes out and is proved to be stable the intention is that I will install it.

I have discussed with the Mods on a number of occasions the funding for the site and we have decided to keep if free, both from advertising and for members to use. We did discuss donations but we agreed that this wasn't an area we felt comfortable with. If a site, such as this, is sponsored or there is a request for donations it might be possible to question the morality of the site…

To make the site bigger and better than it currently is would need more time and money than Mods & I can invest, so we make the best of what we have.

Cheers
Michael

Thank you Michael.
As I said before; it didn`t cross my mind that this could be a non profit site....
I`m still amazed about it , and now I realise how annoying I was when I suggested all kinds of things - more or less possible - from the mods and you....
Maybe all these wouldn`t have happened if I would`ve known from the begining that this is 99% volunteer work............
You and the team are making a GREAT thing !!!
It`s good to find an island of kindness, caring and help in the money dominated ocean.............
Hats off to all of you !!!

If you are a member of other 'forums' (ie a website that contains member-made posts), you'll actually find this one very organised and actually quite easy to navigate to find what you are looking for.

Most forums, even if they have individually organised boards, tend to be pretty haphazard.

This place is pretty big too...3500 members is enormous really and makes it the largest psoriasis forum is Europe I think...

I agree that members could think more carefully about the title of their threads...that is something the everyone could actually do something about. As it is, we try and leave this kind of thing to the membership...this place is pretty self-regulating all in all and the only real problems occur in the CC board (which has nothing to do with what the forum is about at all).

I also agree that the fact this place is non-profit making, run by volunteers and has no advertising in place to find it could be made clearer at the homepage...proof being you didn't know about it!

You'll also find that the FAQS on P treatments, written by the mods, get a lot of hits from non-members (some of them are the first find on google.co.uk when you put a one word related search in) and have obviously become a resource for all P people.

It is the way of the net and people that members come and go, drop in daily or not so often. We get a lot of guests!

All in all, I reckon this place does OK when you take into consideration that it is completely privately-owned and volunteer-run...but always room for improvement  ;)

For SJ:
I hardly have time to visit pho daily, so no, I`m not member NOW of any other p forum/site; but , during the years I registered on many other forums like animation , music, or auto. ........I only proposed some improvements - I seem to be forever not satisfied of something, but it`s not like that; I`m a perfectionist, a very annoying desease . Some members are more sensible than the others; it`s natural, we`re only humans....I also have bad days - as you`ve noticed .
Sadly, very often my English fails me as I feel I could use a dictionary, but it`s more than embarrasing to do it while I`m at work..........it`s even funny  ;D ;D
I`ve noticed you have a very strong personality - like me - so I`m trying not to upset you because I know how I feel when someone is walking on my tail.
Being an aries I`m rather stubborn, but hey, nobody`s perfect.
I hate repeating myself but since yesterday - as seen above - I have a different view on pho; it`s unbelievable great. ;)

You are so funny! Your suggestions are perfectly valid, as is your English and your personality.

What you need is a good whack around the head with a dead fish to knock some sense into you, man!  ;D

Stop apologising. There is no need. You're a great and valued member of PHO because you care about it and the people posting here...

;D ;) :-*
