Maybe there could be an option when you start a blog to make it either:
public
private
private/friends only

is this an answer?

Hi

Thanks for the feedback, your suggestions are not possible at the moment but they are worth considering.

I don't really understand the concern about the blogs and posts being picked up by Google, this site is indexed by lots of the search engines. If it wasn't indexed by Google about 70 to 80% of the people on here would never have found it. 99.9% of the people who find the site find it via  search engines like Google so it would be a very lonely place if that was stopped.

You need to be aware that anything you post in an open public forum is likely to be found by search engines, not just this site, but all others.. that is the whole idea of having an open public forum, to share thoughts, feelings, experience with others. If you are concerned that people will see what you type, then don't type it.

As I say, I don't really understand why a site setup specifically to share information and experience of psoriasis would restrict who that information is shared with.

Definition of a forum: A forum is an online message board where information can be shared and discussions can be carried out and read. Designed to be open to all, they are an excellent way to build an online community and by introducing membership levels and moderators, they can be monitored and controlled to a degree.

Thanks
Michael

I think the thing might be that the forum is one thing, blogs are another.  Far more private thoughts are put on the blogs about how people are coping and feeling, the deeper thoughts and when people feel vulnerable they may want to share that with the people they know but not just everyone out there on google.

I deleted mine an age ago for this reason, but would love to have another if you could do as talis said and mark them as perhaps friends only etc. but dont want it if its going to cause the powers that be a headache, this site is wonderful, the people are too, its a place for solace and just being around those that know what its like, without it I would feel isolated.  So a big thanks while im here  :)

As Michael says it is open and that is fine as it up to you.
It's just when a number of parts managed to get linked together that anonymity is not maintained, even for someone like me being careful it's difficult so as long as you check for yourself to see if there are any links

I see your point Sue and Hank, however I am writing my blog with the specific thought that someone in a similar situation to me might gain some insight and possibly help by reading my thoughts and how things are going. I have a screen name for the purposes of anonymity and am careful not to write anything that I don't want the world to know, but tbh if it's p related than I have absolutely no worries about someone bothering to spend the time and effort to actually find out who I am...it is a very unlikely situation :-\ However we are all in different circumstances and I understand that you may be overly concerned about keeping yourself anonymous for personal reasons. It is my understanding that the blogs are no more or less likely to be picked up by Google et al than the boards themselves - However I have a Google alert set up for psoriasis and PHO has yet to appear in my daily lists :)
Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing...

I am with you there Emerald and had blogs been available when I started my enbrel diary thread then I would have used that instead. I know reading posts has  helped me to understand others' experiences.

The blog I still feel might be improved in the future when possible to limit access to selected groups but otherwise I think if you are unsure and feel vulnerable then just dont post it! Isnt this how it should be for any forum/online activity to keep you safe especially for younger people who use the net? I know I give my children strict guidelines about how much personal info they disclose online.

It is true that there is an expected public availability especially with blogs  I only got concerned when I was searching for something else and two of my different ID's one with PHO and one for something else came up under each other, so need to re-think  what I put on otherwise someone could make the association ( possibly) I don't want any inference between diffrent sites.

Well like I also say you should post anything too private on the forum or in blogs unless you are prepared for other people to read it.....we all know this is an open forum and yet there is always highly emotive and personal information floating about!

My blog is just a diary of my Ciclo/MTX journey......I would never tell anyone on here (no offence) anything that went on either in my home or working life!
