Hi mods!!

I was wondering if possible could we please have a sub forum placed somewhere preferably somewhere obvious where we could have regions.

For example the forum itself then broken down into;

Northern Ireland
London Area
Northern England
Scotland
Wales

etc etc

So that users can have a place to talk to members that are close by them, make new friends they can maybe meet up with etc and just to show and see how many people near them there are on here.

I know personally I would find this an amazing forum, to try find new people and sort meets out.

I think this is a really good idea - it's great to be able to post loads on here but sometimes I also wish I could meet people for a coffee or something and whinge about p face to face.

I'd love to know who lives near to me and would be up for some real life support meet ups.

Any chance Mods?

You could break it down into the different regions of england then, the other uk countries, NI, Scotland and Wales. Could help build more local support groups and get people meeting up, I find it so much more comforting and reassuring there are people near me going through the same thing, and I find it hard to find that on here not knowing where people are etc...

Think you have taken my idea the wrong way, sorry to see that...of course we are all in this together, however I think getting to know people in your own area and being able to meet fellow sufferers would be of great help to many people, besides I was only giving ideas for regions, I am sure more could be added as requested for people!!

I don't think the forum needs to be broken down but it would be good if there was a little thread for different regions so people could post in there if they wanted to meet with others...

of course this place is to UNITE all members but that works online - it would just be good to be able to transfer some of the support into face to face meetings.

hi orbital...i understand what you mean ...how does one meet babes with P that may live near..!!... ;D

I'm just being silly... :D

I have never thought of this as a british forum...although i certainly do like the brits... i would like to see more input from people of other countries...and have asked quite a few here why this isn't so...perhaps  fluency in english is a deterrent? or its their ethnocentricity..or ours?..as an  american. we may look at nationalities differently since most of us are a mix and often don't even think of ourselves as american but 1/4 this, 1/2 that. and 1/8 this.. ...i have never understood not having more interaction with people of other countries while within the forum. Perhaps it's a false observation on my part.

There are many guests that visit but seldom comment..i assume many are from other countries and I would like to hear from them..their experiences, results..I do get quite a bit of email from other countries via my blog...which is nice. The way I see it,  i have about 20 years of existence left..and i'd rather not be simply talking with only my next door neighbor.

the way of the future is beyond borders and that we all are one..while celebrating our unique qualities...

First off, I personally see it as a good idea for the reasons you and Mustang put...whether it is possible is down to Michael, the techy expert.

We have an 'offshoot' board on the Alts Forum (they are called 'child boards', don't ask me why, I know nothing about these things).

Perhaps this is a viable solution...?

On the other hand, we could just have fixed threads in another board for the purpose. This may work better...if all you want to do is see who lives in 'wales' for example, people could post their areas and speak off-board, via IM.

One downside to the idea is it could detract from the forums as whole, although this could be minimised with a thread idea?

I suppose it goes without saying that PHO cannot take responsibility for what happens if you meet up with a psychopathic axe murderer you met online here and went for a coffee with them in a local high street!!!!

I will point the mods in the direction of this thread. Be patient though...we all have to discuss things like this and it can take a week or so for all to put in their tuppence worth.

I don't see as PHO as 'British' either...I see it as an online community. Online communities by their very nature are 'global'. And we do have the odd jolly foreigner on the boards ( ::) ;)).

But I have to admit the vast majority are from the UK, bjm. Perhaps it is because we have a 'UK' in the address...perhaps it is language...perhaps people prefer to locate communities in their own country? I really don't know. Certainly the 'nuances' of our healthcare system over here tend to preclude many non-Brits in some of the forums?

And I don't think PHO is unwelcoming to anyone...well, perhaps anyone who voted Dubya last time and McCain this.... ;)

Nooo keep it as it is or I will be in a group all on my own as no one else is in Oxfordshire :(..... Actually some people may say that's a good thing ;)

Perhaps there could be a tag after your user name saying where your from?

Wasn't there a thread a while ago about where people came from? Maybe a new one of these that can be made to stick around would be a way to go? I'll start if you like.

Thanks for the replies SJ and others :p

Hopefully something could be sorted out, at the end of the day it would be only one small part of the forum and well you wouldn't have to use it if you didn't wanna really...I think a lot of people could benefit though, I know I for one would benefit hugely from getting to know and possibly meet other sufferers in person as apposed to reading their words via PC screen.

I don't think it would detract anything from the forum as a whole, as the regional idea would only really be used to talk to people near you and organise meets and nights out etc, we would all still be using the main forum headings to discuss our P.

Thanks

on your profile main page it has a section to where u live

loactaion

and when u do a search for members u can see there profile page so would see where they live only prob is soooo many members

maybe a option is just to have it included into the bottom or side section to when u post a thread with the other bits of info

maybe just under our avatars

but with the option of not having it included if members dont want it

some obvisouly choose not to use it to keep themselves safe or just dont want people knowing

Yeah thats true, and some people don't want others knowing where they are from which is fine, totally up to them, I use other forums also which have a regional forums part, car owners club forums and stuff and its a great part of the forum for organising days out, meets and certain shows etc...works really well, and hey as said if you don't wanna know about it or use it then ya don't have to :) but for those that would like it, it would be cool to have a section to do this.

Thanks for the replies SJ - appreciate this may be something that isn't technically possible and I wouldn't want it in any way to detract from the PHO way as it works so well at the moment.

And if I met a psychopathic axe murderer then they will have well and truly met their match ;D

Have to say - this idea all comes from OrbitaL but I think it's a really good one which is why I've hijacked his thread :)

Oh thanks for the map Michael, I'm right on the line; looks like I get to go on two boards yay for me ;)
It will be interesting to see how these boards work, hopefully lots of mini flake breaks will pop up. I know how great it is to meet up, safely in numbers, with other flakeys. However I hope it does not detract from the 'big' flake breaks such as Brum where the real feeling of PHO comes through. :)

Thank God I have been put into a big area...I had vissions of me standing alone in a cold, dark Oxford chat room. Just like the shy lonely kid standing at the window watching all the other kids playing in the play ground. Wanting so desperatly to join in and have fun but knowing all the other kids would just point and laugh at him because he had no friends and no one to talk to...

Note to self, must remember to wipe finger prints and tear stains off the window
