"Please help me"
« on: December 01, 2008, 05:03:13 PM »
:'( - I have gone over 10 years without a flare up and all of a suddent my scalp is like well I can't describe it, the flakiness I can just about cope with although my self esteem is really low at the minute as everytime I look in the mirror all I can see is this halo of dry skin it is the worst it has ever been and I am so embarrassed.

The itchiness is the worst I have scratched so hard and yes I know I shouldn't but it drove me insane I had to pull over in the car it got so bad.  I have tried many treatments for this in the past and found I was allergic to all the coal tar based products which pretty much precluded me from most of the treatments, as I am sat here typing this my head is itching and it is taking all my resolve not to scratch.

I work as a business manager so I am constantly around people, and I am sure they can all see just how bad my hair is.  I would appreciate any advice on products I can by over the counter until I can get back to my doctor, I have tried the E45 which is what I used on my skin but doesn't seem to have made a difference.

Please help!!!

Hi Annie

the only thing that i have found to help my scalp is head and shoulders, but it has to be the menthol one  it also calms the itch and cools the scalp, others it has worked for, and others it has not

for the hairline, the only thing that helps me is emuvate

hope you get some relief soon Annie, then hopefully you will regain some self esteem again

Hi Annie,  welcome to PHO  ;)  Sorry you haven't found anything that helps your scalp yet.  There are so many things out there to try now that are not coal tar based though.

Head and shoulders can keep my scalp p under control too,  but then again I don;t get it too bad there  :-\

The dovonex scalp lotion just burns so much  can't use it.   Hope you find something soon ;)

KETOCOZANOLE shampoo works well for me, head used to be like a snow storm before using it, now if I rub my hair really hard I just get a few small flakes of dandruff, the itch dissapeared for me on the first wash too. It has cleared my scalp p by more than 50% & I've only been using it 3-4 weeks.

T Gel worked for me too.

Also you could try Elemis Moisture Monoi (weird name I know), but I tried it on areas around my scalp and it really calmed it.

Good luck trying things out. I know it's a real pain  ::) :D

Hello & Welcome Annie.  8)

If you do a search on the Forum you will find lots of info about Scalp Psoriasis. I hope you find something that helps.

I find Arachis Oil (Refined Peanut Oil) is good for the scalp. You leave it on over night then wash it out with a good shampoo in the morning. Use a fine tooth comb on it. A nit comb is ideal. Then give it a good brush.

You can get this from your Doctor or health food shops.

I used this when my scalp P was very bad or dry. I used to have scalp P very bad.

DONT USE if you have a peanut allergy.

Hi Annie

Welcome :)

I have a client facing role too and it's horrible when you feel so self conscious all day long, not to mention the pain of a tight scalp.  It's not much fun having to treat it as it's all so messy and time consuming but I always find SJ's oil regime works well if you dedicate some time to it
