« on: January 20, 2006, 06:55:19 PM »
hi all
i am male 30 years of age and ive had p... for 15 years over the years ive had alsorts of pills and creams 10 spesalists 4 hospitals even with regular use of all medication i ve only been clear for 4 weeks that was early last year and i had my first holiday in the sun (i found i like the snow better anyway although swimming in the sea was great and i ll miss that)  it all started on my 15 birth day a penny size patch on the top of my head my doc new right away what it was the guy is a good doc if a little shy with the amount of cream he gives me he gave me some coconut stuff foget the name(put it down to old age) but it stayed like that untill my 18 bday(never got a spot growing up put it down to the p.. thought how lucky i was)then it went mad knees elbows then allover and i mean not less than 60% dovenex and polytar shampoo. what aload of hassle 18 and a 1 hour turn around time morning and night lets just say it didnt happen as it should i was not the sort to get up 2 hours befor work when i started at 7 am so it didnt work 6 mounths first spesalist apointment exsplained just couldnt keep up ruteen so what he do gave me short contact the name sounded good but that night found the down side leve on 20 min the wash off with olive oil it took me and mum 35 mins to put on then 20 min wait then 10 min shower to get it off then 2 more showers to get rid of the smell (this is when i discovered the good stuff the thing that has helped me the most all these years epederm)needed somthing other than soap to wash with as that just dryed me out so doc gave me epederm again just didnt happen it hit me like a brick then i got depressed found the down side to my doc too he thinks depresson is all in you head (no       sherlock)he told me to grow up its not as if your dieing this didnt help still think hes agood doc just dont talk about my mental state with him it makes things strained when im feeling down but i get by lot of good friends (its good to talk) ive had alot of problems with spesalists hence ive had 10 nothings realy worked even if as now i follow the instructions to the letter my last spesalist put me on cyclosporin this made me feel sick from day one i could not eat although the p.. got better i got iller tried 3 times as my spesalist said it was imposible the cycloporin was the cause this was the last straw do i not know when i feel ill after losing 1/2 a stone i stoped it for good they wernt happy so at the moment no spesalist i go to gp every mounth for a check up i ve stopped all medication for 6 months just use epederm my p.. is still there at about 25% i cant remember the last time apart from when i was clear it was under 40% thinking about homopathy at the monent but the cost is unreal there are a couple of things that have helped me over the years that may help you to .
itching . at 18 it was so intense that it hurt not itched i tried lot of stuff the doc recomended but the key for me came from a friend of dads he was a marchal arts teacher and gave me a few lessons in meditation i was sceptical but it worked it took 2.5 years to get it right but ive trained my self not to itch if you want to try keep it up because at first its all you can feel .im trying to use it to stop the p.. from growing but no luck so far
polytar shampoo does the trick for me dont know why everone else i know with p.. dont rate it te gel made me itch not sure why
epederm greasy but worth it ive got the timeing right know so i dont shine when i go out
fresh food diet   my main hobby now is cooking as im never better than when i eat freshly cooked food although after staying up all night reading this sight ill have to change a bit see if cutting some things out will help
mum just gave me shear butter let you know how it goes any coment or helpful tips would be gladly reseved  (not about the spelling lifes to sort lol) thanks Dom

Hello and welcome along Domb.

I think the psycho-emotional part of living with psoriasis is generally ignored by the docs...many people with psoriasis suffer from depression and yes, Doctors, it is connected to the psoriasis and no, I know I won't die but I ain't living very well!!!

I am glad you have found us here and I know you will find PHO informative and supportive...there are lots if ideas and tips and the Alternative Forum has some interesting ideas for using non-prescribed things to help relieve psoriasis...

Oh, and the gunk you put on your head as a kid was 'cocois scalp treatment'  ;)
