Acitretin Treatment
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:11:40 PM »
Dear All,

My doctor has suggested for me to use Acitretin in order to see if it will work on my skin.  However I am not sure what to do since there seems to be many side effects.... I am concerned that in order to fix one thing, I am going to get another thing....  Has anyone tried it? Thanks!

Yeah, am on it just now m8. I started on it a few years ago at 25mg daily in conjunction with light treatment. Was very sceptical and still am a bit but would say it has kept my p under a degree of control, as in, it hasnt been severe enough since to require more light treatment, which I used to undergo once a year. Am down to a maintenance dose of 20mg but still use dovonex on the patches that remain. My main problem with it is redness around my face, which I couldnt swear was down to acitretin but think it is. I have to heavily moisturise my face almost daily and if I dont, it does tend to be hot, dry and uncomfortable. I would love to come off of it and am still searching for something else that will keep p at bay but it has probably been  the most effective thing I've used thus far, apart from light treatment, which clears it up completely but as soon as I finish a course the p returns. Good luck if you decide to give it a go.
