Am i being a dramaqueen?
« on: August 15, 2010, 06:34:56 PM »
Hello

I am 24 years old, have had psoriasis for the last 12 years. Over the years it has spread like wild fire.

I have it:

*all over my scalp
*in my ears and behind them
*all over my forehead
*on my nose
*on my left knee
*small dots all over my  stomach, back, arms
*small patch on groin area,
*all over my genetalia

The psoriasis makes me feel dirty, itchy, self concious, and is tiring putting on the medications all the time.

I have got to a stage where i have now become a total recluse, and completely withdrawn from society.

I have become angry and frustrated.

please I don't want sympathy.

I just want to know weather  my behaviour is normal considering my circumstances. or am I over reacting.

I've felt exactly as your feeling now at several time in the last 15 years. But there is help out there. Fonder your gp a d get a derm appointment. There are lots of treatment out there.
Easy for ne to say I know but try and keep your chin up. Talk to people on here and I'm sure you will feel better about yourself in no time.

Hi
As Frost said, get onto your gp and get an urgent referral to derm and you will soon be on the start to getting some treatment to help you. Make sure you let the doc know that this is making you a recluse and stopping you living your life. Believe me, bursting into tears in the docs office is the best way to get them to sort it out pronto.
We have all felt like this and we know what your going through so keep posting on here , there are many things that can give us remission and allow us to live freely and sometimes we have to push to get them but dont give up cos boy is it great when you see the patches going  :)

Your behaviour is normal for someone who has not had the treatment and help they need.  Get yourself off to your GP and ask for a referral to see a dermatologist - often a course of UVB will give you remission - you really do not need to let this ruin your life - we only have one - so don't waste yours letting it take over your life
Good luck and let us know how you go along :)

is that all  ;)  ;D..i;d say you were normal pshell ;)
don't get angry or frustrated - channel your energy and thoughts into seeking a
treatment path with a derm that will give you remission from this cra$py disease.
I don't miss spending 1-2 hours per day trying to contain/control the p, knowing
that the minute i stop...boom the p takes off again. it's a never ending vicious cycle. I've spent years. as have many other peeps here seeking something to give them remission from p/pa...now it's your turn! welcome to the club!
i'm now virtually clear from p...thanks to humira, but hope that you get help to get your p under
control with help and advice from medical pro's and us here...this is a great place to
vent your thoughts and seek help and advice!..good luck ;)

Hey PShell,
I'm 29 from Ireland and have had psoriasis from when i was 19, at first i was the same. I quit the gym and sports because i hated the way people looked at me. I was referred to a dermatologist and was first partially cleared by embrel..however 2 yrs ago i got completely clear using Humira.. It's imperitive  that you see a dermatologist as topical ointments are obviously not hepling you. You're 24 and you shouldn't have this burden..I spent a long time ashamed of my appearance and feeling isolated. My sporiasis has since returned as i prolonged use of humira is not advised and it has completely taken over my thoughts again, but i will be starting back on humira again soon and am looking forward to more years free of this hateful bast@*d of a disease. Don't let it own you. See a dermatologist, and dont look back!

As others have said you are not being a drama queen, its a perfectly natural reaction.. but i would like to point out that you're not dirty and as your P says nothing about you as a person you shouldnt be ashamed of it, or be reclusive.. when you do that you are buying into the opinion that there is something wrong with having it.. and there isnt.. its only skin.. I had P on my face for over 30 years, I know it can be hard at times but changing the way you see your skin can make a huge difference, lifes too short to totally withdraw cos your skin misbehaves itself!

With a bit of luck and trial and error you will hopefully find something that will put you into remission and that will help with the itch and the feeling tired all the time and the frustration but fundamentally it wont change the type of person you are, you are you whether you have P or not   :)

First step is to get to a derm and find out what your options are then make a decision regarding what treatment you want to follow.

Good luck with it and I hope you find something that works for you :)

Hello and welcome along to the forum. Your reactions and feels are normal, however by locking yourself away from the world, you are letting p win. Haviong p is not about being dirty, quite the opposite, the amount of creams we apply and baths we then take. while p is a physical condition, it can be affected by your moods, and being down isn't going to be helping.
You don't say if your seeing a derm or doctor. If your not, I suggest you do. There are lots of treatments out there that lots of peeps have success with.
Don't lock yourself away or isolate yourself. Get out, be proud, you've got p but it hasn't got you!

Cant imagine any of us felt good about getting psoriasis.
I was bloody furious.I was pretty healthy, did plenty of exercise, didnt eat c**p food, was a clean guy so where the hell had it come from.
Yes I was really down.I was covered in it from neck to the soles of my feet.
Went thru some really bad times, itching, sleepless nights, covered from head to foot in grease, clothes ruined, bedding ruined.
It is under control now, it comes , it goes. The dermatologist said smoking effects it ( I am sure the medical profession thinks smoking causes everything ) so I even gave up smoking at the age of 63 ( and that was hell )  but that didnt help either.
But I guess it gets us all down because none of can understand what causes it or why we got it.
So your not alone with being p*ssed off with it.
But if you are not seeing a dermatologist then get your doctor to get this sorted damn fast.
