Dont know where to start
« on: October 10, 2011, 09:37:00 PM »
Hi all,
About 2 weeks ago I got a sore throat that wouldn't disappear so I went to the doctors (not my normal GP). He prescribed me with Amoxicillin for 7 days, on day 5 I started to get small spots on my wrists. I didn't think much of it as I had been clearing the garden and thought it was a rash from the hedge etc. However it got worse and worse and has covered my arms, legs, feet and stomach, so I went back to see another doctor (again not my normal GP) and he said it was probably a reaction to Amoxicillin and he prescribed me with some antihistamine. The rash started to get worse and my sore throat started to return so 3 days ago I finally got an appointment with my normal GP and he reckons it is Guttate Psoriasis arising from my Strep throat. He prescribed me with some Erythromycin (antibiotic) to clear up the sore throat and some Alphosyl HC (3 times a day) and some Dermol 600 to bath in. Its funny for at least about 5 years (I'm 38) I have had a small rash on the center of my chest which comes and goes however I thought it was my hairy chest and the heat causing it however I am now thinking it may have something to do with the whole Psoriasis thing.

Just getting very depressed as I am always in a t shirt and shorts and I am so conscious about the rash that I am trying to hide every part of my body now.

Oh well lets see what it is like tomorrow :(

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy and welcome.  :)

Yes, strep throat can trigger Guttate psoriasis, as for antibiotics (i.e. amoxicillan) I don't know.  I understand certain drugs can also exacerbate psoriasis such as beta-blockers, antimalarials and lithium.

If the medication your GP gave you doesn't help then ask for a referral to see a Derm.  A course of UVB light therapy usually helps those with Guttate psoriasis.

I  hope your sore throat is getting better and I wish you well.
