Hi there,
I have recently been told I have flexural psoriasis. I want to tell a bit of my story as I am not too sure of this.
I have had a rash for about 2 years around my crotch and up around the back passage. I have had instances of ringworm on my body before and thought it was just this. Initially it just cleared up with daktacort but then would come back. Sometimes it would spread to under my arms and onto my arms or around the sides of my chest. When it spread to my arms etc, to me it just looked like ringworm. It would go quite quickly with treatment on the arms and around the groin. It would then return and to be honest, I would leave it for a while then go back and it would clear up.
Soon enough the daktacort stopped working and I was given a number of different treatments including terbinfine (cream and orally) Fucidin, trimovate, canesten and lotirderm (which only made things worse). I can get rid of the patches under my armpits and everywhere else except around my crotch. That just stays there as a few red lines on the crotches. I have been using steroid creams for quite a few months now. If I leave that untreated it will spread.
So I was seeing a doctor and then a dermatologist and finally she said the other day that it can't be fungal as it has been there so long after so many treatments so it had to be flexural psoriasis. Looking at pictures when it flares up without steroids it does look like flexural psoriasis. It doesn't itch generally at all, just hurts sometimes when it gets bad and the skin breaks.
I can be quite sweaty "down below" and researching, I do a few things that make it worse such as drink too much, smoke and eat animal fats. After the dermatologist told me this, I had to ask what treatment I should do and she didn't really say much. If I am honest I am a bit annoyed she told me I have a lifelong condition and didn't really tell me what to do apart from keeping putting canesten on it!
Anyway, what I want to know is does this sound like flexural psoriasis to people and are there any aspects to my story that people can advise me on?
Thanks for reading my ramble even if you can't give advice!
