has anyone else found that this helps?
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:00:07 PM »
I have suffered with psoriasis from the age of 6 and tried a variety of medications, oils, creams, pastes and even chinese medicine!  You name it, I've tried it.  My problem is moderate and is confined to scalp, knees and elbows which normally get worse with the onset of Winter.  My husband bought me some Balneum bath oil (soya oil) which was on special offer at Sainsburys.  Although I don't use it in the bath, I have a warm shower then rub a small amount on my skin while its still wet and pat my skin dry.  I have used this for about four months now and I can't believe the result.  The red flaky patches that I normally get have almost gone.  It must be because the oil traps the moisture which is normally lost particulary in the cold weather.  I just wanted to recommend this to other psoriasis sufferers - it may not cure yours, but it's worth trying.  Good luck!

Hi John Boy, thanks for your message - my first one!  I find that if this is used in the bath you don't get the benefit of the oil as much as putting it directly on your skin.  There is also the problem that when you have baths they are normally quite hot and I think this drys your skin out.
Thanks again

Hello DB and welcome to the family :D
I have been using oils in the bath for a few months without any real noticable results and do suffer badly from drying out after. Perhaps it is because i like to soak for 20-30mins and it is quite hot? dont think the cruddy water in the south west helps much either. coconut oil rubbed in after bath though seems to be helping my lots, similar findings to yours.
I am trying different oils though in the bath as if anything, it is making me more of a mellow fellow! heh

Hi, nice to hear from you.  I haven't tried coconut oil, is this greasy?  I like the balneum oil because it soaks in completely, I don't know if it does any harm to you by putting it directly on your skin but it works for me and I use Dovonex cream afterwards  I know what you mean about the water in the UK, in London it's really quite hard, like some of the people!

Hi D.B welcome, coconut oil isn't greasy, as for hard water if you can aford it, a water softener is great.

All the best.

DB., I'm currently using (since Christmas)  'Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate with Essential Oils' by Clarins to which I add a few drops of coconut bath foam and a little sea buckthorn creamy body wash by Weleda.  Afterwards I moisturise, moisturise, moisturise.  A great combination to ensure I smell lovely !!  :)
