Hello there!
« on: September 23, 2004, 09:59:06 AM »

Hey to one and all  :)

Have recently turned 30 (stress time in itself!) and have had P for 15 years. Mostly knees, shins, elbows, bit on the scalp and in the ears (which I hate most of all cause I can't see how good/bad it is).
Recently, and for no reasons had a guttate attack on my back and thighs which, although is still there, hasn't spread or gotten more angry so I'm slightly thankful for that.

The help my doctor gives is usually just a vacant shrug of his shoulders (a tower of strength kinda guy!) but I've leanrt so much more than reading these boards and lsitening to you guys than I ever have off him so thanks for that!

Also, after spending a lot of time on these boards I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that toxins in the body play a vital role in the P production and not just the usual 'skin cells that grow too fast' (the most detailed explanation I ever received from my doctor!)

I've tried most creams, oitments and finally found a friend in Dovobet 2/3 years ago.  I've been reading these posts for sometime now and am obviously horrified to learn that it is a potent steriod (something the doc left out).  I know that I probably shouldn't use it to the extent that I do but weighng up the "better skin but thinner and possibily damaged " against  "P coverd skin but not damaged by steriods" is something that I must confess, I'm having difficulty making my mind up over.  I know that is probably quite childish but the thought of having a mass relapse terrifies me.

I would say though that after reading all your posts I am trying to wean myself off the dovobet and only use it occassionaly while moisturising more and more.

I've also started a little regime concerning the way I eat which I'll put up on the relevant "Alternative" board as I'll most likely have some questions that I'll need help on - hope thats ok!?

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello and I'll speak to you all soon!

Hi Hellojed

Welcome from me too.

I'm always amazed that GPs don't feel it necessary to alert patients as to what treatments actually contain..

Hope the new diet regime helps a lot..

Guy  ;)

Thanks guys! Good to be here!

Guy - tell me about.  I was never told to only use the dovobet for 4 weeks.

I have noticed amongst some doc's I've been to a lack of education and empathy, a kind of "nothing you can do about it" attitude and then just fob you off with more cream....and still not explaining the full ins and outs of it!

I've learnt so much more here from reading everyones posts than from any GP I've ever spoken to...thank you all!

hello and welcome

i dont think we can blame the docs too much as gps they have to know something about everything!! though they should warn when prescribing!! grrrrr
