Hello there
« on: December 01, 2011, 10:39:46 PM »
Hello,

I thought I'd start by introducing myself, I'm Kirstie, I'm 21 and I've had psoriasis since I was 11. My story is it developed one summer when I was on holiday, it was just a small patch on my scalp and we had trouble with finding out what it was from the doctor for a while. My scalp was quickly covered and I missed a lot of school because it was so red and people could be very cruel about it.
I also had patches on my skin, but I felt very fortunate that it wasn't too severe and a lot of it cleared up with creams. Recently, my lower legs are suffering with very large, red sore patches which itch insanely and seem to be requiring much stronger treatments.
I'm here for support and maybe to give support to others, whilst my family are very kind and patient with me, it'd be nice to talk to people who have been/are going through the same kind of thing.

Hello!

Thank you.
I was using Dovonex cream for a long while, I was given the ointment when the cream was discontinued but that didn't help, I've also been given Betnovate previously but found it made things worse. Currently I'm using Curatoderm Ointment on my skin and on my scalp I have Capasal.
I'm only seeing the doctor at the moment, but she mentioned if the curatoderm doesn't help to see a derm.

Hi Kirstie,

I've been suffering with Psoriasis for about 10 years now, I haven't had a bad break out  for almost 4 years until about 3 weeks ago - my scalp and legs are covered, I was interested in what you said about your lower back and legs needing much stronger treatment. The Psoriasis on my legs has always been different to everywhere else and doesn't seem to respond to anything - Dovobet, Dovonex, Silkis (calcitrol) and even phototherapy.

I've just been prescribed Exorex (coal tar solution) while I am reffered to the derm so got my fingers crossed!

Hi Kirstie,

Make sure that you use plenty of moisturiser. And I mean plenty - put on twice as much as you think that you should, and then put on more. That should help, but nothing will cure. Sorry.

If your GP is offering a referral to a Derm, then grab the opportunity with both hands.

And let us know how you are getting on.

Just to re-iterate what Pieman said: search this site for topics related to your condition / treatment and you will find a wealth of information. If you can't find the right answer, then post a specific question. One thing that you will not be short of is advice, experience, and help.

Regards,

Daryl
