Hiya, this is my first time on this forum. It was reccomended by a friend of mine. From what I have seen today it looks to be very good and helpful.
I am 21 years old and have had p for about 10 years now. althouhg it was only diagnosed about 5 years ago. The doctors always maintained that it Eczema until one doctor diagnosed it as p, which was a bit of a relief because i never though eczema could be so bad!
When i was 19 I was also diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. I had a very hard time dealing with this. I was on lots of medication which often got me down. I was also anaemic at this time so generally felt low anyway. It affects my hands/wrists, knees/elbows, and feet/ankles. Lucky me! I tried several types of tablets for the arthritis but nothing much seemed to be working. I was refered back to my dermatologist who alongside my rheumatologist decided that i shoudl try methotrexate to treat both things. Thanfully this did work and I finally felt like I was getting my life back together.
Two years on the arthirtis is under control. i still have flare ups but can manage these now. I am no longer taking any medication at all! this is a big barrier for me to have overcome. I just rely on my faith and have a positice outlook which keeps me strong. I know that in the future i will prob habe to go back on the tablets but for now I am happy with things.
P had settled but in the last few months has flared up. I have just been using Aveeno cream and then covering my body with Clingfilm over nite which is quite soothing. I am awaiting an appoitnemnt with my dermatologist. I am hoping he will suggest some light therapy this time as its something I havent tried before. I have used so many different creams/ointments that i am sick of seeing them now!! so fingers crossed that the light therapy will do the trick!
I used to be ashamed to show of my arms and legs coz of the p. But now I dont care, people are ignorant but we cant stop doing things just coz we are worried what they think. I still get stared at all the time but i try not to let it get me down
After having a quikc read of some of the conversations there doesnt seem to be much mention of psoriatic arthriris (or maybe I havent found the right thread yet!). Is there anyone else who has this?
