Hi
« on: October 04, 2006, 02:02:25 PM »
So I had psoriasis in 2 very small patches on my elbows for years. i controlled it with Dovonex and thought nothing of it. I then moved from Newcastle to Florida for 6 months where the Sun cleared it up comletely so i stopped the treatment.

Anyway I got back 12 months ago and it started to come back on my elbows again. I used the Dovonex again and it didnt seem to be working as the patches were getting bigger and bigger. So i went to my GP and got some coal tar ointment. This seemed to have little or no effect also. I was then moved onto daktacort and once again after weeks and weeks of using it there was no change.

I then started to notice little patches under my thighs and on my calfs, only little specks. I got put onto some sort of paste, coal tar in PPC or similar and it seemed to stem the problem for a couple of months, not making it any worse until around 2 months ago when it just started getting worse and worse.

By now I had small patches aroud the size of 5 or 10p pieces on my heel, both calves, both thighs, bigger patches on both elbows, 2 patches on my knees and patches over 3 knuckles on my right hand and 2 knuckles on my left hand  >:(

Ive no idea what caused all this, im not stressed, in a happy relationship, decent job etc....

I had an appointment with the Dermatology Consultant at my local hospital who was c**p and told me to keep doing what i was doing, even though it obviously isnt working.

After doing my own research i requested Dithro cream from my GP who prescribed it no questions asked, probably just to get rid of me!

Anyway ive been using 0.1 dithro on my legs and groin and 0.5 dithro on my elbows and hands as it didnt seem to be reponding as well as the other areas and it was more aggressive there anyway.

It seems to be working and the psoriasis is less noticeable and thinning right out, apart from the fact I have big brown patches all over my body at the minute  :o

Anyway, just as im starting to feel better about it, BOOM. I get 3 or 4 patches on my scalp. Little patches appear on my cheek, my forehead and my nostril, patches crop up all over my penis and even a little bit on my bum.

Now I am a little stressed. I can cope with it on my body, its not that bad and its covered up at work everyday anyway. But starting on my face and penis isnt good. Im only 24 and id rather not have to explain why i have a scabby penis to prospective lady friends if im ever single again  :o

So this week im going to pay to go private and see a doctor who treated me for acne as a kid. He knows his stuff and wont fob me off like the GP and consultant did.

Anyway, just thought id share my experiences and say hi. Ive gone from clear skin to a scabby git in the space of 12months and i can empathise with all of you on here as it isnt nice

Done  ;)

Hi & welcome along!

I've had p since I was 10, and my face was one of the first places it appeared  >:( The best treatment I've had was PUVA about 10 years ago which worked really well (until the p came back of course  ::) )

It's quite usual to get the brownish staining from dithranol as it's reportedly the most effective tar based treatment - so I assume it's the most potent too. My GP doesn't ask questions either - although they once refused to prescribe me elidel just because it was for eczma and not psoriasis according to his 'pocket book of dermatology' or whatever book it was that looked it up in  ::)

I've still got the p on my face (and I'm 24 too, but only for a couple more weeks...) It's on my hairline, nose, cheeks, top lip, chin, ears and the only thing that works is elocon (a steroid cream) which I try to limit to once a week or less as it's not advisable to use steroid creams on the face. I know how you feel though, it's one of the worst places to get p in my opinion. I can quite happily walk around in a t-shirt showing my p covered arms. But I hate the p on my face. It feels totally different a few days after putting the elocon on to look in the mirror and see myself without the patches again. And horrible when the p comes back, sometimes overnight  :-/

Actually, quite a few people have posted about p on their 'thingy' so you are definitely not alone there. Try searching through the 'recreation room' threads for the discussions.

Well, you've already discovered from your own experience how relentless this sodding p is - hopefully you'll find some useful info about treatments on the boards. Have a read & keep posting!

Hi j69. I have often wondered whether it would be worthwhile going private, so would be very interested in how you get on.
