Hi everyone
« on: November 05, 2002, 10:07:40 PM »
Hi,
I've read the board for a couple of weeks now, and finally I've joined!  You all seem a friendly bunch.
My P started when I was 17, just on my elbows. By the time I was 22 it was on my legs too.  At 25 I had a bad case of tonsillitis, which I'd never had as a child and well, the quickness of the spread was unbelievable, from head to toe. I was like a leopard. I was using a full large tube of Dovonex in a couple of days. After a year of this, the gp finally had enough of my begging to be referred to a dermatologist (we only refer 'bad' cases!) and I had 9 weeks of UVB which thankfully cleared most of the spots up.  Now I'm terrified of getting an infection in case it comes back like that. At the moment its on my scalp and elbows, with the occasional leg and body spots. Dovonex seems to keep it under control. Though stress makes me flare up.

Hi Becky :D

Welcome to you! ;D

The stress of not letting the p return can be a real bummer I know - try to enjoy the freedom from p - maybe this is a good time to try some form of relaxation therapy - lets face it there are loads to choose from.

I'm having UVB at the mo to clear a bad outbreak - can't wait for the clearing.

All the very best to you.

Guy ;D

Hi Becky,

Welcome to the forum. Gosh I know all about doctor's not wanting to refer you. NHS budgets, sweetie, I think that's all there is to it.

I really don't think it's all down to ignorance.

Trust me, we are a friendly bunch (a little insane at times but generally safe). You wanna wach out for PedroER's evil twin though.... bit of a dodgy geezer!

I do feel better!  ;D  Luckily I was working at the hospital at the time, so I used to go for the uvb and tar bath in my lunch break.  Had to go home a couple of times after tho' as I burnt.
At the moment I'm working with someone who has been waiting for an appointment since August, I'm trying to get her online to this forum for support.
I can remember how depressing it all was.
Been ill with flu  :-[ over the last couple of days and I've read though loads of back postings!

Hi Becky,

Welcome aboard. [smiley=hello.gif]

I haven't been here very long, but this place has done wonders for my attitude, not to mention the loads of really good information.

I hear you all complain about the fact that you can't get a referral to the derm, I guess once again, I can be greatful for the medical system here, you don't need a referal to see most specialist, you just call up and make an appointment.  I thought that I was being frustrated, by all my previous derms, now I realize how lucky I am to have been able to see four different ones in the past two years and choose the best one.

Anyway, bit off tangent there I know.

Like I said, a big pink   [smiley=hihand.gif]
