Hi I am new and feeling pretty low
« on: July 14, 2008, 10:11:19 PM »
Hi I am Sayamon. I have had P for about 5 years quite severely at times. About 4 months ago after a good period it has come back worse than ever with large red plaques all down my back that bleed, a very sore scalp, and some smaller plaques on legs and stomach. The worst one was where I once burnt my arm on the oven which is oblong in shape and about 4 inches long and 2 wide. All are red raw today. I also have pain in shoulder, elbow joints, feet and lower legs. I am on methotrexate 17.5 mg a week and have been for some time but the P seems to come and go when it pleases. The dermatologist has suggested some xrays but I have been waiting 5 months for an appt. Scalp solution and cocoid cream seem to do little to help. Acupuncture just got rid of a lot of money but not the P. I have no family history of P so not sure what triggered it. However it did come on about 9 months after I was seriously ill in hospital. I was in for kidney stone removal via keyhole but the op went wrong and I got sepsis - blood poisoning and I was in intensive care for 6 days. Once recovered I had to have a kidney removed. I have read that infections can trigger P so am wondering if there is a connection - any others have a similar experience ?

hi Sayamon

welcome to PHO

I have had P for 7 years had a massive reaction to a medication that I had - one month after the medication i had every classic sign of P starting

and was on Methx for 8 months straight at 20mg - hated every living second of it

stress is a major factor and that time around the infection sounds classic to me

good luck with finding information on here

we are a friendly and helpful bunch

 ;) :)

Hey Sayamon, just wanted to say hi and welcome to PHO. I'm sorry I can't be of much help to you as your P sounds much much worse than anything I have experienced with mine. I am pretty sure you will find that lots of people on this site will be able to help and advise you though. Best of luck.  :)

Hi Sayamon

Welcome to PHO

Can't really help with your question, I've had severe p for too long, but it came at a young age for no apparent reason.

I do get flare ups when I'm poorly though.

Hello and welcome along

P can affect anyone with a genetic predisposition. The gene came from someone in your family, the rest of them are plain lucky for not triggering it if they carry it! I too went through my early life wondering how on earth I could have P when no one in my family sufferered...then a month before my maternal grandmother died, at the age of 65, she got it too! My sister, also just before she died, triggered it too!

Both of them were very ill, so yes, I would say any trauma to the head or body can trigger it. I have no idea what triggered mine - I was about 10 and it just appeared. No illness.

Hope you find PHO informative and supportive.
