How I Hate this P 'My Story'

Hi all, new to this forum, so here is my story, developed p about eight years ago, at the time I had never heard of it before, it started only small on my elbows, although always suffered with Serboric dermititus around my eyebrows and side of nose and inside my ears from early teens, but no P anyware, now i had a serious accident at work in 97 in which i broke a number of bones in my body, mainly my right Humerus arm bone which has never healed to date and had complications with numerous surgery which unfortunately did not work, and has left me with a disability! P started a couple of years later, don't really know if it was the accident or the stress of all the operations that triggered my P or what, Now i have never been able to clear my P completely and only since I have got P on the top of my Hands that it has now really started to become a problem to me, I have big patches on my elbows and have the small plaques raised spot like all over my body mainly on the back of my legs and buttocks top of my feet and top of my hands and in my hair, I have tried nearly every cream out there and i am currently on UVB treatment at my local Hospital but only had 7 sessions with no great improvements at the moment.

Can anyone who has had UVB treatment tell me how many sessions they had in which they saw a real improvement or clearing of the skin from P?

Ointments Used to date:

BENEVATE: did not work for me!
DOVONEX:  rubbish!
DOVONEX SCALP SOLUTION: did not work for me
ALPHOSYL HC: Rubbish
CARBO-DOME COAL TAR CREAM: Very strong and took the skin around the plaques away, stopped using!
BETTAMOUSE FOAM MOUSE: Good works well, but must use Regularly
DOVOBET: worked OK, but did not clear my patches, only made them pinkish for a time!
EPADERM CREAM: Rubbish
DERMOL CREAM:  Rubbish
AQUADRATE: did not work for me
DATACORT CREAM: Good works well for Facial Serboric dermititus
SUDECREM: only worked so sooth the pain from sore patches, but brought scaling on quicker

Up to the UVB treatment i was using DOVABET, which did not really work only turned the red patches pinker for a time, but would not remove the patches or the Plaques from my skin, I currently Moisturise with Aquas Cream AND TOTALY CREAMED OUT

My experience with creams and stuff is the same as yours.. except Dovobet did clear me, but now doesn't do a thing.. the other really important bit is that in clearing certain patches, it just made me break out in other different places so I now have far more cover of P than ever ,... 
I had UVB..  this was very good.. I was clear within about 2-3 weeks including my scalp  (don't know how that worked!) but now my derm is encouraging me to try MTX.  I really don't want to take what I would refer to as Heavy duty drugs.  seems like trying to crack a nut with a sledge hammer to me..

I am beginning to think i need to try the diet approach. .cut out all wheat, dairy, alcohol, sugar etc. and see if it makes any difference.. it will be hard, but i think i owe it to my self to see if I  could get it under control without the need for drastic chemicals in my body that are going to impact in other ways..  if I can do that for a while, then if i don't see any difference then at least i know I've tried...

I am also undergoing Hypnotherapy for stress management which is really interesting ..

Re UVB, as with most things each persons experience is unique. If there is no improvement at all so far maybe you should bring this up with your UV nurses? I suspect you are only half way through the course so plenty of time to still do good

Hi, Thanks for the replys, you are correct I am only half way through my UVB treatment, my patches just seem to going red around the edges, a bit sore and raised, but not disappearing I must admit it is driving me crazy, as I hoped the UVB treatment would really make a differance, but to upto now pretty dissapointed! and if it looks like if this UVB treatment is a flopp then taking the drug meds is probably the only way forward for me!

Hi Tyson, what's your moisturising routine like? It's important to slap on the moisturiser ASAP following the UV exposure in my experience.

When I first did uvb it took me about 20 sessions to see an improvement after that it just kinda disappeared good luck with it :)This time round I saw a significant clearing in 5 or so sessions because I changed my diet and took vitamins (omega 3 fish oil/vitd/selenium/vit b) Maybe this would help you too?

Hi Tyson, I also use nbUVB. I have had the same experience as Kathryn, when taking the vit D plus ibu regimen (see bj's thread) I clear faster from the UVB. But I need to take the peppermint oil (which is part of that formula) in order to clear well. I tried one course of UVB without taking peppermint oil, and that time I had more trouble clearing.

Thanks katherine, but I have been informed that I am only allowed to have UVB tretament once a year by the Nurse at the hosy and also the block sessions are 1-17 is this the same for you? or are saying you did not see any improvement until your second years sessions!
