Just diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis
« on: November 17, 2011, 01:59:43 PM »
Hi,

I've had Psoriasis for approx 5 years and have recently been diagnosed with PA.

Hospital are going to put me on MTX injections (I wasn't keen on the oral version reading about side effects) but I'm still confused whether I should go for it or not - some people say it's not good for you and others says it does work after a while.

I have severe pains in different joints of my hands and feet including "sausage" fingers/toes and am am now getting pains in my hips.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Online Mr-G

Hi kmb,

I take the oral MTX, 22. mg per week and have no side effects apart from the odd mouth ulcer here and there.
It effect people differently, you maybe a luck one who gets away with things.
Only one way to find out......

I am waiting to start MTX and I am so not looking forward to it.

BUT

It's meant to be the best at relieving the sypmtoms along side the NSAIDS. Although everyone has different reactions to drugs, I think we have to try and to see what happens. Personally?. If the side effects are not as bad as the pain, then I will think it's a God send.

Good Luck xx

Hi I am newly back to this site and have had p for almost 15 years (thankfully in remission or gone? dare I wish), but I started getting pains in toes and hands about 2 years ago. Went to doc, then hospital and they said it was 2 early to diagnose!! I thought early the better, but no, maybe have to wait till I can't turn a door knob before they say yes it is PA and then get treated. Hope your treatment work. :D
