Light Treatment
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:51:44 PM »
I have an appointment with a dermatologist and i'm hoping to get light treatment. Does anyone have any experience of it?
And if it works how long does P stay away for? Thanks :)

Hi,

Yes, I have had light treatment on two occasions. The first time was about 4 years ago and it was a great success. I had pretty much clear skin for almost a year, but I have a feeling that my skin was going into remission at the same time as the treatment started, so I am not sure what did what! It can be confusing!

My second experience, just over a year ago, was not as successful. Perhaps because the treatment was disrupted with me having a massive flare-up of P,  which resulted in me getting burnt, and therefore the time of light exposure being reduced.

Oh, I hope that that hasn't put you off. Go for the treatment, and get a nice tan in the process.

The only draw back is the time that it takes. Mine used to be three days a week (well of course not all day) but there can be queues so you may be there for an hour, but on other occasions you can be in and out in ten minutes.

Good Luck.

Regards,

Daryl

Only had light treatment once, after a couple of weeks p returned with a vengeance. I know of others for whom light treatment has been relatively successful insofar as it cleared skin for a much longer period.

I have had UVB twice. First time successfully cleared and stayed clear for 5 months.  Second treatment which wasn't as successful and never actually.  P came back pretty quickly once I stopped.  Unfortunately then had to go on cyclo/mtx combo which was very successful. One negative is having to attend the clinic three times a week for a very short time under the light.

Give it a try, it really feels good when it works

Good luck

I had my appointment and the light treatment is a no go as the p is too aggravated at the moment! I have to cut out alcohol, caffeine and drink lots of water. I also have to apply emulsifying ointment every 2 hours and was advised to have complete bed rest! Which is going to be difficult as I work 3 days a week and have a 2 year old to look after! Anyway do what I can and hope for the best!
