Hiya

Picking, itching, scratching, rubbing, picking again OH GOD doesn;t it feeeeeel sooooo good - till you stop!

My friends are always on at me to stop picking my hands of all tho old scaly skin.

Since I only got diagnosed about a month ago (altho having had the p on my hands for 4 years) it's started comming up on my scalp too.

On reflection I can remember having episodes of this in the past but it seems since i now know what I've got it's attacking me all over!!!

Good to see/hear you on the site,  welcome!

I guess we should all be very strong willed and not do the picking thing but........................... ;)

Sarah I understand completely sometime you just can't help it.  I have been sitting some nights and suddenly realised that I was surrounded by a pile of snow flakes......... first thought is "oh let's get the hoover out"...... 2nd thought "I will never do that again"...... till the next time.

this reminds me of a personal horror story I'd almost forgotten! Thanks for reminding me  ::)
A few years back I went to the hairdresser's with my mum, and we knew at least by sight everybody in the salon (this being in rural holland). After a few minutes of toying with my hair the hairdresser suddenly got a very concentrated, worried expression on her face and went to get the owner. He came and also inspected my head with the same concentrated, worried look. I'm like -I've got psoriasis. But they'd never heard of it (after years of hairdressing, can you believe it!). Anyway the whole salon went into panic mode at my having 'lice', every comb/brush/pin/god knows that had been in my vicinity went into the disinfectant, and people tip-toed around me and gave me pitying looks. My hairdresser kept reassuring me 'it's very normal, people get lice all the time'. I was SO embarassed and angry   :-[ >:( Kept saying it's psoriasis and they just thought I was making excuses. Needless to say I never went back there...

Have the dreaded p in my hair too - have since very little. I agree with Wendy, the scalp cream is very good. It breaks up the scales and there is less chance of pulling your hair out when you comb it.
I found it best to put the cream on over night, use polytar shampoo to wash it out and comb my hair with a lice comb to remove as much of the loose flakes as possible. If you can handle getting up early you can use it every night and wash it out in the morning before you leave the house - use to do it when I was still at school.
As for it spread and getting in your ears - same here. Have found scalp cream good there too and use Alphosyl in my ears (& on rest of face too). Unfortunately with it going in your ears you can get them blocked - I had to get them syringed about 9 years age.
As for wanting to shave your head, I used to just keep my hair short - good for combing. Mind you it could also be because I had a habit of cutting my own hair at the age of 5 ;D

I have also got p in my scalp, had it there for as long as i can remember. When i was young the school nurses used to visit and inspect our heads for lice. Me and my 2 sisters used to have hair so long we could sit on it, anyway my mum was informed i had lice and advised to seek treatment, this went on for about three weeks, mum got fed up and took me to the haidressers along with my sisters who were protesting violently at the idea of being "scalped"! After being given what was then very trendy haircuts we were sent back to school. Low and behold my mum was told yet again that i had lice, Fed up at this point i was taken to the G.P again where upon mum was informed that what i actually had was scalp p not lice, mum cried for hours at what she had done and what it had cost her.
In the past i have used run of the mill treatments but find the best one for me is Betnovate scalp application, if you have open sores on your scalp from picking it may feel like it is burning you but it stops the itch. I also use a fine tooth comb (like the ones for head lice) to remove any left over flakes caught in my, it stops dandruff effect on my collar.

Have recently started using Betnovate myself. I've found it good if there isn't too much of a skin build up. If that happens, I need to use the scalp cream to break it all up again - the joys! ::)
