me & p forever will be
« on: October 30, 2002, 12:10:24 AM »
hi, my name is sam and i've had pustular p for about 8 years. unfortunately i was in the army when i first got it and they can be particularly cruel. you just learn to hide the pain away and get on with life, if you don't you'll crack up. then we wouldn't be at the p forum but the nutty farm forum. it took me ages to get to see a derm (i was in germany at the time, army doctors are great...not...). they tried every type of cream, massive tubs of e45, but nothing worked (surprise surprise). when i finally got to see this german derm she was great. she explained exactly what i had and gave me more cream. it really thinned my skin out but after the 3rd highest strength it started to go. i forgot to mention i'm lucky, i only get it on my hands and feet. those stares though when you hand you money over in a shop, how they manage to give you your change without ever touching your hand, it's amazing. the leper is back, that's how you feel. my skin stayed clear for a while but it's always thin now. then it came back. one doctor i saw even brought the rest of the practice in to look as they'd never seen it before, that filled me with confidence. i struggled on, not bothering with doctors untill a few months ago. after giving the doctor enough earache he finally referred me to a derm. i had to strip (for hands and feet???), it was awful, and he gave me this coal tar and zinc which literally burnt my skin. then i went back and had to see a new derm, (they don't stay long do they). i tried to explain my wonder cream which i couldn't remember the name of, no one else would listen, and she knew it. i was so happy i could have kissed her. so now i'm back on my brown staining skin thinning disgustingly wonderful dithro-cream. i just wish it was a permanent cure as you can't use it forever. i think i've bored you enough now. keep smilin' ;)

Hi Sam

We all might sit at home and think we are unique and it's not till you come across a site like this one that you suddenly realise that hey there are lots of us out there....we all have a story to tell about living with P...

I have about 90% P coverage and just in the last 2-3 months P has come up really badly on my hands.  I know exactly what you mean about people looking at them - it really makes you feel awful BUT..... it is there problem not ours....

I have just been given an appointment in November with my Derm as I wanted to show them my hands - if they have any good news about treating them I will let you know.....

Keep smiling and if anyone looks just stare back at them.........

Jackie

Hi Sam,

Nice to have you aboard my friend. We're a friendly bunch and can be relatively normal sometimes too (ahem )

Welcome to the world of the flakies. Enjoy (Dani steps back as the huge flakie doors open. Michael stands glowing in a godly outfit and the rest of the flakies sit sround playing harps, preening their wings.... hold on, that's heaven isn't it!!)

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hi Sam

Welcome to the forum mate.

I am exactly the same as you with PP on hands and feet and I soooo know how you feel.

Sometimes it just seems never ending and it's so painful and uncomfortable.  I do feel lucky that it's relatively localised with me altho occasionaly the P decides to go on holiday.  I just got over a bad head case and my legs and arms looked like I had a funny cross between measles and chicken pox - SO CUTE!!!!

Anway, you've found the place to help you cope - believe me it's got me thru several times recently.

So, keep in touch and come play on the P-Nut Forum - as I'm sure you can tell after reading Dani's post - are you on drugs girl?!?!?!?!

Hi city-hopper-sam,
Been there, done that with the dithro. I always found it odd when I was younger that my normal skin would go purple where the dithro had burnt it, talk about odd looks then! The last time I was in hospital they gave me a dithro cream that turned all the normal skin black (& I do mean black, not just dark brown), oh what fun when my p cleaqred up, I was then someone with black & white skin and white spots! Are there any treatments that aren't either stinky or turn you a different colour? ::)
