My daughter
« on: October 31, 2011, 06:31:49 AM »
Hi there, my seven year old daughter developed plague psoriasis on her scalp and guttate psoriasis all over her body. The dermatologist prescribed a compound to apply ($75 for 6 applications!!) and was very negative about alternative treatments and/or diet related treatment. We have tried going gluten free for the last 8 weeks, which seems to have made some improvement, but she has also started taking multi vitamins and cod liver oil. The weather has also gotten warmer, so maybe exposure to the sun has helped. I just wondered if anyone had any advice to share? I think it is quite unusual for such a young child to display the condition, and am really looking for some support!
Thanks.

Poor kid, not nice at any age but 7 is very early  :(

Cutting out dairy can often help too. And yes getting some exposure to the sun will certainly help

Aloe Vera Gel is very good for application if needed during the night to soothe itchiness

I hope it can be brought under control rapidly for her

i always found when i was younger, that if it is sunny it helps my skin but going swimming in the sea.
and in the sand was something that smoothed my skin, because of the sand and salt in the sea, it help.

i first got it when i was 5, but being so young i wasn't good with always having to have creams
applied. so just make sure things like moisturisers are used all the time. morning and night and during the day if you can.

 :)

P is a hard disease to deal with emotionally at any age but must be so much harder at such a young age. Must also be really hard for you to watch this happen to your daughter :(

I'm guessing by the fact you mentioned $'s that you are not in the U.K.? Would you mind asking where you are from?

There are a lot of alternative treatments available, but as your daughter is so young I would seriously recommend that you get medical advice before starting anything. What works for one person may not work for another.

I personally found that light treatment worked well on my P as well as a coal tar lotion called exorex
HELP...........................

Hi .. im sorry to hear about your daughter..if the P is lookin red and angry I would be very careful what type of onitment if any to apply to your daughters skin..  if u must try and use somthing that will  keep moisture in her skin try a small amount on a test area on her body and keep a damp cloth handy incase it makes her irittable and try and not let her P dry out..
Shame there's not a market for new skin because I would.be a multi millionaire ... DNA everywhere

Hello & Welcome Mahmy.  8)

Sorry to hear about your Daughter.

Have you seen a Dermatologist? or was this just a M.D?

I would go and see a Dermatologist if you have not done so.

Its important to keep the skin moisturised and not let it dry out. There is off the shelf stuff you can buy such as E45 Cream and Bath Oil. I have not used these myself but i know of people who have had good results with stuff like that.

For the Scalp have a look at this thread.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words  :)
We live in Western Australia and as we head towards summer I am noticing a definite improvement in her skin. I am slowly reintroducing wheat (in the form of spelt flour) to no great effect, which is a relief. I make all my own bread, biscuits, cakes etc and am very mindful of what goes in our mouths. I am primarily using a sourdough culture, as I had read that the fermentation process makes wheat less reactive in the gut. I also make our own yoghurt, butter and buttermilk.
Her scalp still seems quite scabby, but more manageable than it was.
The doctor we saw was a Paediatric Dermatologist, but as I said before, was not particularly helpful. It appears that managing the condition is purely trial and error.
I guess what concerns me most is how she will cope with other kids teasing her. But then, if someone is going to judge her for her condition that person is not worth knowing!
As if parenting alone isn't hard enough!!
