well i first got the dreaded p when i was 9 years old, just on my scalp at first. doctors said it was caused by the shock of my dad dying, my mum also has small patches on her elbows, so i suppose the hereditary factor must have played a part too.
that was it, until i was about 14, it started on my elbows and knees. not bad but enough to be embarassing to a teenager. my mum had been prescribed betnovate, so she told me to use a bit. it worked for about 5 minutes, then, wham, i was covered. all over my arms and legs, and the scalp got worse. pretty much down hill from there really, tried a whole succession of cream, lotion and ointment in the last 20 years. nothing helped, only seemed to make matters worse, until in feb this year i had a massive flare up which covered my entire body, except my face.
it was then the doc. decided to send me to the derm clinic and refer me for uvb treatment. luckily this worked, this is the clearest ive been in over 25 years. just small patches on my calf, knees and thigh. i can wear a skirt and shorts for the first time, and sleeveless tshirts too.
the course of uvb finished, and the dovobet has started. p is still active, notice a new bit every day somewhere, but at least the dovobet is keeping it from getting too bad. im off to spain next week, got my first swimming costume, so i intend to make the most of the sun and swimming.
it may take time, but there is something out there for everybody which will make a difference, its just having the patience to find it.
