Hello everyone
I am a new member & thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm 1/2 Scottish and live in the Highlands. I have had P since early teens - many a long year ago. There is no history of it in my family at all - I can only think that it is stress related - I certainly had a somewhat less than idyllic childhood.
In the old days the treatment was coal tar, then salicylic acid (& then wrapping appropriate bit in plastic), then betnovate which has left my skin thin & prone to cuts, scrapes etc. I've also tried uv - I got too strong a dose & ended up with sunburn - great to look like a lobster - as they say, I can laugh about it now. P was helped by these various treatments then invariably got worse.
I went to university - one of the best times of my life, but the stress of exams etc made P very bad, so I reacted by covering up with long clothes. Looking back I realise I shouldn't have been so stupid but I was very self conscious and we all know how hurtful and unthinking some people can be - they open their mouths before putting their brain into gear!
I have two children (ages 20 & 15) and during my pregnancies and after the births my P improved quite a bit. I gave up going to GPs years ago for P and started trying various herbal treatments. What I find works for me now is pokeroot ointment on the plaques (which, happily are only on elbows & scalp), washing my hair with tea-tree shampoo and, what I think has been most effective by taking a daily dose of a herbal de-toxifying drink called Intra. I've been taking this for over 2 years now which has coincided with the worst 2 years of my life - husband walked out and mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers. I expected the P to erupt - it didn't, and my GP expected my high blood pressure to go through the roof - it didn't, so I can only thank intra for keeping a lid on things.
I also receive Reiki healing which I find to be very relaxing - I would recommend it to everyone.
I've rambled on for long enough, so I'll sign off now.
Best wishes to you all,
KT
