:) hi there,my name is maria,im 45,i first got psoriasis when i was 15,there wasnt any history of others in my family, having had psoriasis, until now,my 19 yr old daughter has started to suffer with it on her hands and elbows.as all the members will know ,its destressing enough that we have the rash, but for our kids to get it too,is heartbreaking.i have psoriasis on my scalp, elbows and knees, and as always ,it has good days and bad.the most upsetting time for me right now is coping with the arthritis,im now at the stage where my mobility is bad,i know how you must feel with the fingers swelling, and the feet too,but please know that you are not alone in your suffering, and its because of this forum that i now feel better in myself, ive always just wanted to be normal,i hid my skin prob from everyone, and did a good job too,but it only made me more ,and more depressed, now the rash is a lot  calmer, but the joint probs much worse, ive started to feel sorry for myself again, cos i cant do the things that normal folk can do.i thank god for this site, its the only way i can seem to get through life,my doctor isnt much help,so ive given up on him.i hope you enjoy visiting this site ,as i do.have a nice christmas, god bless.

HI Maria

thanks for your reply. I didn't have psoriasis as a teenager but did have bad acne. It's a difficult age to have a skin problem. As you were the first in your family that would make it difficult for you, your daughter has you to support her and that will make a big difference.

I'm sorry to hear you have such a lot of joint problems. My GP is also not very good, I have promised myself that in the new year I will find a better GP. Not necesarily someone who has vast knowledge of psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis, but someone who is prepared to listen to us, accept that our symptoms are real and refer us to a specialist if necessary. It is easy to change GP these days, the hard part is finding out a good one - the best way is word of mouth recommendation. Friends and neighbours can be a mine of information!

I agree it is difficult to see your children suffer. Your support will make it easier for your daughter to deal with this. Maybe a change of GP would be good for you both as then you would know that the help is available for her if she should need it.

Thanks for your welcome note, I hope you'll soon get some help with that arthritis. There is another good support group at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. I have joined, sent for their leaflets and even attended a meeting! They are a good source of information

Best wishes and a very Happy Christmas to you and your family

Liz
