Hi everyone
I am very happy to find this forum to discuss different ways to treat this infliction.
I am 53 years old and started to notice that I had p about 12 years ago when I was working in the far north of Canada and it has not went into remission or stopped so far. I have only used different salves to keep it moisterized, but with not much success. The only place it has subsided is on my scalp. When I had it on my scalp I lost a lot of hair due to picking and scratching.
All of a sudden approx 5 years ago it just went away in my scalp and got worse on my legs, feet, elbows, groin and now it is starting on my forearms and hands.
{what a great phenomena}
Approx 10 years ago, here in Canada you could buy a product called Mange Cure that was used in the treatment of lice and skin disease in cattle and I tried it on myself and you know it really worked but now you cannot get it anymore. Maybe this kind of treatment is still used in other parts of the world, if anyone knows please post about it {It is a tar based product and very very strong smelling}.It would only be available through a vetrinarian.
Thanks for letting me run on.
Craig

Hi Craig  ;)

First let me welcome you to the forum too.

Sorry to hear your p has been so persistant :-/
I can't say I know the product you're refering to, but then, I don't get in contact with much cattle either ;D
But there are some threads on tar-based products with  the experiences of people who used them on this site that you might find usefull.
However, as you probably know, p is a mysterious affliction, and different treatments have different kinds of results on different people..... ??? strange.....

But I think the first step should be to a dermatologist. Have you done that? I don't know about the health care system in Canada, but here you just call one and make an appointment.
And armend with information about conditions and available treatments you can find on this site, you can set out for a "programme" that fits your needs and expectations together with your derm.
Have you ever tried or considdered UVB treatment?
Anyway, there are many things around, so check out the different threads. ;)

Good luck and keep posting (and keep us informed ;) )

PedroER ;D

Hi Craig

Welcome to the site.  Haven't heard specifically of the Mange stuff but if it is coal tar then that makes sense.

There a ointment in the UK called Alphosyl which is coal tar based - not sure if you can get it in Canada.  A dermatologist woud be sure to know - worth a visit.  Exorex is also another tar based lotion.

Let us know how you get on

Hi Craig

I have used a coal tar preparation called Exorex. There are quite a few coal tar preparations about. It is worth discussing with your doctor. Stronger preparations are no longer recommended, as I believe there is some concern over side effects in the long term.  Here is one link ..

The evidence on coal tar is not conclusive but I'd want to use it under medical supervision to be safe.

Hey Craig

Welcome to the nut house!  Lots of people say that just finding this place helps to calm their P - hope it works for you too!

I've never heard of Mange Cure either I am afraid - we used to say we had the Mange after spending all sumer swimming in the Mersey River tho!!!

Good luck with finding an alternative and make sure you let us know how you go.

Cheers
S
