My Story...
« on: May 27, 2006, 02:44:05 PM »
I first got Scalp Psoriasis when i was 11, I just thought it was an outbreak of dandruff or something at first. But then it got worse. The GP diagnosed me with Chronic Scalp Psoriasis a few weeks later and gave me soem special shampoo. The slowed the spreading down but it was still slowly spreading. I've now been given some more different types of ointments and shampoo's to try and control it. Which kind of worked. But your body gets immune to medicines after a while doesn't it...  :-/ 3 years later i saw quite a big red spot appear on my left arm. I just thought it was a scab or something... but it got bigger... and bigger until is was about 1 inch wide, then it stopped growing... 1 more year later an outbreak of more little spots appeared on my chest and arms. Now i'm getting scared...  :( Everytime I go to the GP he gives me more and more different shampoo's and ointments. And when I say i want to see a specialist, he says "Oh, lets just try another different type of ointment first, then if it doesn't work we will send you to a dermotologist". *sigh*

And to this day I still have the litttle spots on my body... still not getting better...

Hi Matthew,

Firstly, Welcome to the forum!

Nextly-PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN with that GP-or go and see a different one-to be referred. GP's have a budget quota they have to stick to, and they sometimes drag on  with ointments for years before referring you because it's cheaper-you need specialist treatment, and you need it NOW.

I got scalp first too, then plaque just like you have! Good luck with it, but don't put up with any c**p from stingy GPs

Hi MATTHEW AND WELCOME,

had my P for 12 years now, comes and goes but always there, spreading quite badly at the moment, but never mind.

Have been uses different creams etc all that time and my dr was much the same as yours, reluctant to send me to a derm.
Finally told him last monththat I wanted to see a derm as its now spreading again and that the specialists are more up to date on the latest treatments etc,and he caved in-AT LAST!

You know your body and your P if you feel you need a specialist then say so,gps dont have all the answers all the time.
And good luck x

Hi Mathew, Have to agree with Shreena and Kate.  If you are getting nowhere with your GP then go to another.  Your GP might genuinely want to be the one who gets the credit for helping you but he's not is he?  Most p does start on the scalp as did mine.  Do put the creams on when the doc says but if you are not happy go back and go back till he listens.  Time to get tough and you can always come on here for a good old rant and rave to get it off your chest.  We're here for you dude!!! You need to see a dermatologist.  In my experience most GPs have very little P. knowledge (I often know more than them!).  Good luck  :)
Chronic, or in other words, "We have no idea what is causing your problem, or how to cure it - try this cream, it will probably make you worse, but perhaps it won't"

Hi & welcome.
As the others have said, demand to be refered to a derm. A GP has only a limited knowledge of the treatments available, plus he may not know what can & can't be used on youngesters such as yourself. I'm surprised you weren't referred straight away. Anyway, get your parents to demand it if they try to fob you off. Good luck.

Hi & welcome :)

Like everyone else has said, put your footdown and 'politely' remind him you've already triedanother cream and in his words you're now due an appointment.
