My story...
« on: January 09, 2012, 08:56:42 PM »
I'm 23 and have had Guttate Psoriasis since I was about 12.

When I was younger it was treated by steroid creams, it went away for a good few years returning when I was around 18! As creams didn't work on my legs (this is where I am most covered in it) I was referred to a dermatologist and given phototherapy treatment - again this worked everywhere apart from my legs. The Psoriasis seemed to disappear as quickly as it appeared around a year later and I've been clear for the past 4 years until about 3 weeks ago. My scalp is covered in thick white psoriasis and my legs are covered in firey red spots, ranging from pin prick size to about a 5 pence, after visiting the doctor twice, as before Dovobet and Silkis don't seem to make any change to my legs, while at the doctors today I was referred to the dermatologist (could take up to 12 weeks for an apt) and in the mean time have been prescribed Exorex Coal Tar Solution so fingers crossed.

Each time my Psoriasis has flared up it's been due to some type of throat infection, I've also recently split up with my fiance so not sure what has brought it on this time! The doctor seemed to think the throat infection due to the type of Psoriasis.

The main problem that I have is it gets me really down, I can hardly even look at my own legs or talk about it without crying, just wondered if anyone else felt the same? I do feel guilty as I know many sufferers have it much worse - I just can't help but get down :(

Has anyone tried Exorex??

sorry to hear your story ! ive had it 25 years and until recently kept it under control with creams sun and uvb . but like you had a real bad case of sore throat and then proper flu which caused a massive flare up that no creams would touch . now on cyclosporine which has been a godsend , but now worried about the day i will have to come off it ! i guess you need to be refered to a derm ? the endless creams thing is so disheartning ! a good derm will probly sort you out

Hiya and welcome along

I have guttate Psoriasis and have spots pretty much all over my body, I've had P since I was 8 (35 now) I hate looking at myself in the mirror, or seeing myself in a t-shirt or shorts so can relate to how unhappy it can make us feel. Its hard not to feel hopelessness sometimes when it just doesnt seem to shifting and you shouldnt feel guilty as we are all sufferers equally in our own battles and no one can walk in our own shoes and truely understand each persons personal sufferering. (Hope that may make sense, it does in my head!)

There is hope though as many suffers do find relief and clearance, so try to keep your head up and try to keep battling away as you hopefully find something that works. Some of my patches are much more stubornous (new word?) than others, my legs dont shift for sun or anyting (So far!)

Good luck with the derm and have a read out and keep posting about how your getting on! Lovely bunch of people here!!

Take care

Jamie.
