Back from my appointment with the specialist dermatologist nurse. Spent about an hour with her, lovely woman, very understanding and patient, and explained everything thoroughly to me. Made me feel very comfortable. Very professional indeed.
She confirmed how serious my condition was, and is recommending to the consultant when he's back next week that I be fast tracked onto Stelara, and is starting all the paperwork now for it, as well as for a TB test and x-ray if the consultant deems them necessary. She said the consultant may also consider putting me onto Infliximab, which is not something I knew about - I'd only read up on Humira and Stelara which were the ones the dermatologist said to consider. Apparently, that would be a day case, where you go in for the day and it is administered by a drip.
She carried out a PASI assessment and said that she didn't even need to add up the scores, it was so obviously severe that she was immediately recommending I be fast-tracked.
Apparently, I've been dehydrated and suffering from increased heat loss, which is why I'd been feeling cold and shivering at work the last couple of weeks. I just thought I wasn't wearing enough and the heating hadn't been put on at work yet. She said if I start getting a fever or chills, to take myself straight into A&E. So if you're in a similar situation to me and your condition is getting severe, don't ignore it, get yourself seen! I've also been told I need to be drinking LITRES of fluid a day!
I could be starting the new treatment in as early as a couple of weeks or so apparently. They will actually send someone round to my home to teach me how to administer the treatment, and they will also deliver the medicine to your door as well. You have to be at home, cos it needs to go straight in the fridge, but they'll deliver in the evenings too.
In the meantime, I'm supposed to rest and relax and not do too much, just watch tv, read, etc. Well, who am I to argue with that!
