Hello to everyone.  Been a p sufferer for a while now (mainly just a bit on my elbows, knees, hands, ears and chest) but recently have had a major flare up!  Been to the doctor a couple of times with no real positive results-got some dovonex which just seems to make my skin even greasier and more angry looking.  Been reading a few postings and reckon its a guttate job.  Had a throat infection round about when it started.  Am now fairly covered.  Was able to live with it until it spread to my face.  Am not a vain person but this is something else! Have now got red blotches all over my face, all in my hair (not to mention all over my body).
Any views on re-assurance people can give would be gratefully received.  I dont drink, smoke, eat unhealthily, I get regular exercise, am not too stressed out (apart from by the P) and would just like any advice on how I can live with this thing that is starting to take over my life.  I am trying to just shrug it off, but each look in the mirror makes me more and more upset!  Anyway, hope to hear from some of you soon.

There is the feeling that you must have done something wrong to get it!  Why did I cheat on my GCSEs-it must have been that  :P

Am feeling a bit happier than I was earlier after having read a load of posts.  Good to know we arent alone facing upto it.

:D Hi Sam, I have just battled and almost sort have won a gutate battle. I got a throat infection/cold from a co-worker and broke out from my calves (calves have had the big patchy P on there a year now) to the mid of my back and I have been using a few different steroids on my skin...actually, I have been drowning myself in 3-4 different ointments and it has been going away, even the big patchy patches on my calves. I have not been scratching at any of them, even though in my heart I'd love to scrape the heck out of them viciously. Even though drowning yourself in Steroids is not a good thing, I have/am doing it and it is working for me. This is what I am using now:
Triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% which is a very greasy ointment. I drown myself in this after I bathe. I think THIS is really helping me.
I am also dabbing on Tazorac topical gel 0.05% and I haven't really seen an improvement with this but haven't given it a chance on its own yet..so who knows, it's in the mix though.
I use Ultivate which is another greasy steroid ointment, sorry I dont have it in front of me and dont know off hand the %.
A cream I am using is Psoriatec 1%. It is suppose to be "Tar" ..it is a yellow cream and it doesn't stink or burn. I use this for a 1/2 hour and then shower it off.
I am also in between using vitamin E mosturizing cream on my skin when the meds do dry up. I am also taking a few oral prescriptions as of November 11th.  These are:
Doryx 100 mg. What this is, I don't know. When my dermy was prescribing them to me, all I could think about was how fast I can get them at the pharmacy.
The next pill is Ery tab which he said is an antibiotic to fend off that sore throat (which I think was strep)?
and it is at 333mg and I have 2  refills on them. He said it was a strong strength. Next is Psoriacap Gelcaps. They have fish oil and folic acid listed as their ingredients so Im thinking of getting those as supplements after I am done with these pills. I was also prescribed Zyrtec which is like allegra and that makes me too drowsy/sleepy/woozy...so I gotta wait till the nightime to take it.
Well, that is my list of stuff. It is working and I believe it is the ointments working on its own because I started to use them before the actual oral medication. The gutate P is slowly disappearing. The Big patches are breaking up and slowly healing section by section.
I am a happy girl. Speak to your dermy and see what is right for you or if any of these things can be? I live in NY, USA so maybe the meds may have a different name where you live??

Sam Welcome  ((:y  ((:y

My 1st P outbreak was Guttate and god how awful it was - after 16 years I can still remember the feeling - I also had a tonsillitis at the time and am a firm believer that there is a connection with guttate and the strep virus.  I know exactly what you mean about your face - it is a step too far for P I think - how dare it come in places that people can see - but keep being positive - it does help! ((:y   ((:y  ((:y

As soon as I felt a throat infection I immediately got a prescription from the docs and started taking antibiotics  – this seemed to stop me having such a bad P flare ups.  I was very prone to throat infections – I had between 6 and 10 bad infections per year and got really pi&*ed off continually taking antibiotics – kind of got the feeling that they where not working and also still having P flare ups.  I had my tonsils removed a few years ago on the recommendation of both my GP and my derm.  I know this is a bit drastic for some people but it did stop me having so many P flare ups.

You can get Dovonex in an ointment or cream.  I find the cream one is much better and less greasy to apply - you need to let your GP know which one to prescribe.

Did you really cheat in your GCSE's?  How did you dare?
I went armed with a crib sheet into my Latin O-Level, but bottled out of actually using it.
Should have done.. I failed it..

Welcome aboard!!

Hi Sam go back to your G.P and demand to see a dermatologist - that is what we pay tax & N.I for
It may take a while for an appointment - ask him about PUVA or UVB - I go on the sunbed weekly this really helps - but start off gradually - like 3 mins to start then build up your time on there
Good Luck

daivonex is very greasy but i was assured that it helps take the redness away .. it has done that to a certain degree with me (would be better if i used it as prescribed  ;D)
with the UVB i was started at 45 secs .. and gradually increased by 45 secs each time provided i didnt burn

i haven't lost my mind its backed up on disc somewhere ...
