Scalp psoriasis - Help please
« on: December 01, 2011, 01:41:54 PM »

Hi Guys,

Some months ago, I posted that my 12 yr old was developing what I think was  psoriasis at the nape of her neck.  At the time we changed shampoos etc to try and find one that would help and not irritate. We found Boots own which seemde to clear it up.
I've just discovered that the suspected psoriasis is now also at the top of her scalp and to the side of her scalp. She kept quiet about this and did not tell me. What drew my attention was seeing flakes through her hair. She has very long hair and is struggling to keep flakes clear. On my examination of her head I found red angry areas, that has a build up of flakes. She has told me that it is sore and itchy. I must now deal with this and get her to a dermatologist who can look and confirm. My head has been up my bottom this last few weeks, sure that its depression, but im in denial (I am still awaiting an appointment for my 16 yr old for the guttate psoriasis that developed on her back. It receeds and then comes back. I was using dovobet on the spots).

What do you all do with scalp psoriasis, how can I make it better, give some sort of relief. I read somewhere that a fine comb can be used to clear the flakes, which I am currently trying.  How can i get rid of the itchiness ?

Sharon.

Hi Sharon,
I'm sorry to hear that your struggling at the moment. I have had scalp P since I was 17 and I  found that coconut oil helped keep the flakes under control. Like your daughter I too have long hair and at times the hair has fell out due to the P growing down the hair shaft.Fear not the hair did grow back a lot he alther then before.
I found Betnovate scalp treatment worked but it stung like hell if the scabs were open. I found that the coconut compound the Derm suggested never worked for me, but alas what works for some make not work for others, its trial and error I'm afraid.
Sadly the itchiness I found could only be relieved by anti-histermines, I also found that if I freeze my skin of scalp that takes the itching away.
Have you spoke to your GP about any of this, and being in denial is something I think we can all relate to at sometime or another, I can for sure.
Remember your not alone with a family like PHO.You can guarantee that anytime day or night someone can offer some advice and if you want a rant or a whinge your in good company.

Good Luck

I found that the salcura shampoo and conditioner really helped mine. It is overly expensive but worth it to be honest.
