Sebopsoriasis or Seborrheic Dermatitis?
« on: September 18, 2011, 08:10:29 AM »
Hi guys, i'm 30 years of age and live in Melbourne, Aust.

About 10 years ago i noticed a red spot just under my right eye, near the bridge of my nose, which would sometimes have white flakes on it. I didnt think anything of it it and about 5 years ago it disappeared completely. About 6 months ago it came back and quickly doubled in size... and unfortunetly it's now under both eyes.

I went and saw a dermatologist who diagnosed me with Sebopsoriasis and prescribed some steriod creams. I used these for a while but i think it may have just made the patches bigger.

Anyway, having read a few threads in here, i think I may actually have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face rather than Sebopsoriasis. My flakes have always been white, not yellowish, and in fact, i havent really had any for quite a while... just smooth red patches under my eyes, near the bridge of my nose. I have had dandruff before and what i think was Seborrheic Dermatitis along my hairline... both of which Neutrogena T/Gel Daily Control (2 in 1) cleared up.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what Seborrheic Dermatitis looks like on the face and whether this is the correct forum to discuss it?

Also, everything i read seems to suggest that exercise is very important in helping to control these conditions, i am quite fit and train martial arts a number of times per week... but this exercise makes my skin flare up like nothing else. There's no way i could go out after i've finished my training.

Thanks for reading.

Dirk.

I can't comment on what type of sklin problem you have, but your derm should be able to take sample of your skin for testing. Best of luck.

Hi Scruff,

I've been to see a Derm twice and both times he told me it was "Sebopsoriasis" and prescribed me some steriod based cream. Neither time did he actually do anything to my skin other than look at it for 10 secs along with some pics i had brought on my phone.

I have psoriasis but I also have a dermatitis on my left hand. I have found that sweat/heat makes it worse i.e if I wear washing up gloves for too long then I will usually develop patches within the next few hours.
You need to shower/wash your skin as quickly as possible after exercise or any strenuous activity that makes you sweat a lot with warm/cool water as hot water/heat aggravates it (preferably you should do this with in 5 minutes of finishing exercising).
You should also moisturise the affected area or you could use a cream such as E45. Since I started applying coconut oil to my body my hand has been so much better and doesn't flare as much because the skin is nice and moist.
