OK- My psoriasis history.
I got married on June 8th, then went to Australia for a 3 week honeymoon.
One day, less than a week into the honeymoon, we went horse riding, something we do a lot at home. However, my horse bolted and I got thrown off. I landed on my arm, and broke my humerus. This is possible the worst bone in the body to break.
So, complete with unstable fracture, we decided to complete the honeymoon rather than going home early. We were due to stay in Singapore for a couple of days on the way home, and a day or two before we got there I started to feel rather unwell. I had caught a bug and subsequently went down with th e worst tonsilitis I have ever had. We caught the plane to Singapore, where we were staying at Raffles, and when we arrived I was feeling really bad. I spent the whole time we were in Singapore in bed (where I had to sleep sitting up due to the unstable fracture).
When we finally made it back to the UK my body erupted with scaly red itchy patches all over and thick scales on my head. Yep, really really bad case of guttate psoriasis caused by the throat bug.
Eventually the doctors decided to operate on my arm, and when they took the arm brace off they discovered that not only did I have psoriasis, but that the skin under the brace had become infected and was weeping icky fluid everywhere. This meant that I had to stay in hospital having inpatient skin treatment before they could perform the operation they needed to on the arm (which was to have a look at the nerve, because it was damaged in the fall and I couldn't move my hand or feel my arm).
6 months on I still have psoriasis all over my body, although the treatmetns are starting to work.
Not the greatest start to married life though! :-/
