"Breakthrough over Psoriasis"
« on: June 28, 2005, 09:37:14 AM »
There was a short, single paragraph story in the Telegraph today:

----------------------------

Breakthrough over Psoriasis

Scientists believe they have made a breakthrough in treating the skin condition psoriasis. They have found that an ointment used in treating the painful disease is killing off the cells that cause the problem. The team at Newcastle University believes the discovery represents a step towards better treatment.

-----------------------------

Can't find a link for the story on the Telegraph website or any other information. Anyone any idea which treatment / ointment they are talking about?

Sounds good, but is it just one of these breakthroughs that amount to nothing?

There was a guy over here who had come up with a cure, It was an injection with very few side affects. He was testing it somewhere in asia. My dermatologist went out an brought shares in it. Then i was told the results weren't as good as first hoped. they then move on to the U.S for more testing and approval to use on(sell to) the population. Anyway the last time I talk to my derm he had written off his money (Ha, teach him for charging me so much). So until i put something on that works I think I will remain a sceptic. :)

Very possibly, Starburst  :(

A look at the Newcastle University wbsite shows that they do a lot of research into Dithranol:

This could be good news - Dithranol more or less cleared me totally last time i used it but as it says its so difficult to use - the staining is the worse, if it could come easier to use and no staining this would be a sort of breakthrough im sure.

Prentice

According to the university website I linked above, it is also called Anthralin - but a review below shows that this "version" also stains:
