My local hospital is allowed to supply a prescription to cover 4 weeks (it used to be only 2) and the same rule applies for the GP. I don't know if this is universal in the UK. Check with the hospital what period they can cover. You may find that your Derm does not know it or is out of date (this has happened to me). You then have a solid base to argue from.

thanks for the input daiv
ad alittle argument"with the other half this morn
thinks i am being silly over this ointment, but i fill strongly, that if you are given a ointment, surely it should be anough to do all your area that req it not just
one limb or half your area, shelve life does not come in to it. keeping in fridge etc, the day i bit of the derm s
and nurse's head, started when after beining to strip
so she could work out percentage covered, she produced, the same papers, you know a scetch of
the body front &back, scribbled all over them. said you can get dressed now, i ask how long had she been a
derm nurse, and then asked why she as not botherd to
enquire about the p. up my nose in my mouth, in my ears, up my you no what, apperently had not read my notes "who do you trust" it was obvious my new young derm had not looked at my notes, sorry to go on but
surely" when you by a tin of paint it tells what coverage you will get , brush, roller, how thick etc .see where i am coming from, they must have a ready reckoner or a good idea how munch is req, if you have got this far thanks for bearing with me.

I had this problem, although I don't go to Derms but get GP to prescribe topicals.

I just told her that the one tube she gave me lasted a week and a half. Now she puts 360 grammes on repeat and keeps an eye on my usage via the computer each time she signs a repeat script I send in via email.

My advice is keep nagging, complaining, persuading until you get the treatment we are all entitled to .

Hi David
this is just the sort of frustration and aggrevation you can well do without - typical of someone who only sees p and has never had to live or deal with it!

Maybe all derms, as part of their training, should be painted blue and the only way to get their normal skin back would be to apply ointment/cream every day for a month (on prescription and comes in a stupidly small tube!)

I had this problem the other day, i normally get 500mls of exorex each time on the scrip.. well stupidly when filling in the repeat form at GPs, i put in 100 mls.. which was what i got this lasted all of 2 days!!! partly my own fault but you would think they might question it when they are filling in scrip for you when  normally get such a bigger amount!!!

hi, all
had another go at derm, and got want i wanted
he still would not say a much i should need, eg apply 3 times aday etc, but said you tell me, so i said i will have 5 tubes 120g
of dovonex 5 tubes 120g dovobet 2&500g diprobase etc etc
you cant have all that he snapped, i said your the derm and you never get it right!  all i want is wks supply so i can get the same from doc, it would be nice to have a months supply
i can't do that , i replied o yes you can. but he thinks he knows best, "anyway i keep it short" of i went to hosp/ pharm with
quite long list, i was questioned about the amount, so i asked  to see the head pharm/ i soon made it clear i knew my rights
and she confirmed them, a hosp/ prescribe/ can be given for   4 wks and gp 2wks, but she gave me the back part of prescribe/ so next time the repeat from doc, will be the same
also i said this 2004 you would think the derms/proffesion/
would have a ready/reckoner or chart for what percntage of oint/ect ect , she replied o yes there is one" but ointments
creams lotions etc are very expensive" so they will be pulled the rocks by the f/p? cant rember it all, anyway even though
i am now alright jack, im still wound up over the way they think its only spots/scabs/well give 30g of ointment they will go away and we have saved millions, i did ask the pharm/ for a copy of the chart they use but she said she couldent find one
bye for now

Sorry dave i posted a very similar question before i noticed this one.

I totaly sympathise with you.   Another thing is that the application isnt easy....how does one spead it out thin enough?   You are told to use steroidal creams sparingly but its easier said than done.   Maybe if someone created some form of applicator we could all use less.

Hi, i was told to use the treatment sparingly too, afterall the reason why we're supposed to only use a little is cos too much steroids can effect the skin in the long run, wrinkling, sore skin, stained patches, and even could have an effect in your blood etc.

Personally i recommend this, get 50:50 (liquid soft parrafin 50% mixed with white soft parrafin 50%) its a real good effective liquidy moisturiser. Its usually recommended by Gps to PEOPLE with severe dryness, basically mix it in with your ointments and then apply it to the skin. Its worked for me and i still do it. And if you cant get it on prescription, mmmm you might aswell seek another option cos the 50:50 solution is quite expensive from the local phramacies.

The only other way is, to moisturise the skin first before applying the ointments, so you can easily apply it under the recommended rule.

Hi David,

I get a 4 month pre-paid Prescription.

I see my GP and tell him what I need and in what quantities.

Pharmacist dishes it all out to me as soon as she can.

So no problems here ...  :P
