accutane and amevive
« on: June 27, 2003, 01:25:09 AM »
Hi Everyone, first I'd like to say that I came back from my vacation after only 2 days because my Cousin ( who is much older then me) tried to keep me indoors and drove me nuts so I had to leave. I didnt have hardly any phone communication with my family so that made me anxious and I had to go.
Next... I went to my dermy on Monday and he finally after begging and begging prescribed accutane to me. We spoke of Amevive and how its out over here in the U.S. and Please hurry and give it to me since im getting worse and he doesnt have access to it! He has been recommending I go see some other Dermy who is more knowledgeable in this field and I guess a higher rank dermy  and the fact of the matter is the darn thing cost so much, there is a lot of controversy going on at least here with this Amevive. My dermy informs me that it is about $10,000 a year cost rounding to about $800 a month and I told him I will some how come up with the money, just prescribe it and that is when he told me only those "Selected" Dermy's can even get it themselves!!! What a horror, I dont know why anything to help always has a $$$$ sign on it. Its cruelty if you ask me. He prescribed accutane which he said has the least side effects and he also made me sign a couple of consent forms and initial every paragraph that I read about the side effects of this medicine. From what I read, one of the side effects is depression. I have read ppl have attempted and committed suicide using this darn medicine. It is a risk and if I started to feel "sad" I was to immediatly stop using it. Its also costly here too, about $80 a pill. There are no refills and you must get it in 7 days or else your prescription is void. I have been so busy with my son's graduation and my daughter's graduation that I have not had a chance to rest, let alone go get that med. I have till Sunday. The Doctor also told me that it takes a while to start to work :-/ but, that is ok as long as it helps. I wont be sad taking that med, I feel glad I finally got a prescription for something. My skin has gotten worse and right now it feels like its burning, ...the patchies that is.  :'(
Everyone I told about the medicine is mad at me for thinking of taking it but they are Not the ones who are suffering and dont know how I feel. I do want anyone's opinion on here who may have taken it and wants to let me know what happened when they tried it. You all know how I feel and I do value your feedback  ;D
Sorry for my usual book here... hehe.
By the way, its really hot in NYC today...in the High 90's.
