Acitretin!! Is it ok? (again)
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:25:55 PM »
Hi all, just joined as I have been on Acitretin for 4 months now. I was on 25mg for 3 months and it made no difference to the P but did have the dry eyes/lips quite bad. I had another appointment with my Derm and was increased to 50mg. After 3 weeks I started to have a very noticeable improvement to the P but started to get blistering (very easily) to the soles of my feet and on my hands. I spoke to my Derm again, and was told the dose was too high and to stop taking them until the effects settled down. That was 22/12.
Now we get to the question... In the last couple of days the palms and fingers of my hands have become very hot, red and sticky as well as being sore. Has anyone had this happen to them? It never happened until I stopped taking the Ace which is odd. It almost feels like I'm sweating out the drug from my hands, like I said, odd!

Thanks for the replies guys. The hands thing has eased off a bit now but is still there. The choice is do I go back on it at a reduced dose or stop all together... It has made a BIG difference to the P but now I have stopped taking it, it's starting to return. Ho-Hum  ::) I don't miss the dry lips one bit!  ;D

100% agree.... do appreciate that everybody is different but i've never been so ill. June to November of last year was very difficult and unpleasant.
I stopped by lowering the dose rather than Cold Turkey, but it didn't help.... reduced my white cells significantly and was very poorly for some time after that.....

Now have the delights of MTX or a biological to look forward too....... :-\

i think that acitretin with narrow band uvb is the best treatment for plaque psoriasis , i tried it personaly since longe time and i advice all not to take biologics except after joint affection

Quick update. Been off Ace for a few weeks now and things are pretty much back to normal. Feet are 95% there, lips are smooth and not dry (yahoo!!!) even my hands are almost normal. The P has stayed away but does show signs of slow return in places. Not that it completely cleared mind, but I can live with it. Just in two minds whether to go back on it, or to leave it until a more marked return. Nothing like having a silver bullet when you need one... Even if it kind of shoots you at the same time  ;D
