Hi Sam;
Thanks for that, I'm sure in the future I'll try something else just not ready for it yet. Did you have the itching? I only got it after taking acitretin and its just getting worse,
I'm glad you,ve found something that suits you, you could send me all your old hats  ;D

Hi Maria

No didn't have the itching well no more than usual, the stuff I take at the moment is the end of a very long list of things and its not working completely but can't moan compare to what I am usually like its not that bad, unfortunaley though it does nothing for the joints and they are driving me to distraction at the minute with the pain .  Will send very used hats by carrier pigeon ;D

Acitretin/ neotigason/hairloss

I have never felt so down in my entire life, started this drug in July ,  my dosage was on only 25mg , I was unfortunate to suffer  lots  bad side effects but by september I was clear, first time ever since I was 9 years old,
This I can say has been the only time my psoriasis has been clear.
It felt magical to wear summer clothes and not be all covered up.  In the begining I had what I now know to be slight hairloss, However now my hair is falling out, if I brush my hair more comes out, if I wash my hair my sink holes get blocked.
Being female and having hairloss is hell. I wish id never took these tablets, im taking 10 mg every 2nd day and putting on creams again. Hopefully I can come off these horrid pills and get something else that doesnt have hairloss as a side effect. The hair loss is not only on my head , eyelashes, eyebrows etc effected too.

Has anyone else been on acitretin , had severe hairloss, came off them and had other treatment. please share your story, as im at my wits end with this. Thank you

Hi valentina1966

I understand how you feel , I had bad hairloss I was on acitretin and having uvb at the hospital so should have been happy , the hairloss took over my life.

I made a spread sheet and counted what was in the bath what came off on the comb also on the pillow over night and any extra though out the day.

The good news is after 6 months of stopping my hair was thick and full again.
I also went on clclosporin , I know that can cause hair growth , but I was good on it and for a man it was not so concerning.

I know most men will loose their hair over time but me my male family (uncle ,cousins) still have good hair and to loose it very quickly was very distressing, I also have a scar on the back of my head and some psoriasis so shaving it off was a last option.

AS I said at the start it stopped after 6 months , so my advice is stop taking it and move on to ciclosporin , mthx , or fumaderm

I hope this helps , I know it mean suffering for longer but I hope you will feel better as the March April approach mine peaked (hairloss) in the first 4 weeks from the start of it falling out.

                 good luck valentina1966

Hi Valentina,
my hair eventually stopped falling out 4 months after stopping acitretin. It is growing again thankfully,

but It;s going to take a long time  :(  :(
Personally I stopped taking the tablets just couldn't take anymore.

I decided not to take anything else for my ppp, all I use is Dermol cream a minimum of twice a day, and so far haven't had a bad flare up since stopping acitretin, in fact it is probably better than it has ever been  :)

Hope you soon find something that helps you

Maria

I posted on this thread in early August when hair started coming out. Now thankfully back to full thatch. For anyone going through the dark times that I went through, if its any comfort it will grow back.

The hairloss from Acitretin got so bad that I stopped the tablets on christmas day, I can however say hand on heart that it did leave me clear,  for the first time in my life I did not one patch of psoriasis , if it had'nt  caused hairloss I would still be on it. My advice to anyone is give it a try as hairloss doesnt happen with everyone.

I saw my dematologist and have now started hydroxycarbamide,  finger crossed for this one. Its really trial and error I think but hopefully I will find a non topical treatment that will work for me. :)

So pleased for you Maria2 (and peasandgravy). Although I was confidant you would be ok, I do think it took a lot longer than expected for you to recover. :(
I am still free from any P, due to being on Humira injections and Methotrexate for just a year now.
I couldn't be happier. For the first time since puberty I don't have any signs apart from a small area now and then on my scalp, which is manageable. :)
Good luck with any future treatments.

Thanks Alfie, but after that horrific experience with acitretin I decided not to have any more medications ( also my derm said if acitretin didn't work then methotrexate was unlikely to either ) and so far its been slowly getting better using only Dermol cream.
Don't know if its the cream or just my ppp improving either way I'm happy  ;D
Really pleased you've found something that you can tolerate and has cleared you long may it last

Regards Maria
