I am happy with the results but the doctor made me think it was going to be full clearance within 6 weeks...so dissapointed on that front.  Increasing dose tomorrow so not sure how that will go.  The nurse practitioner was more honest and said it takes time.

I think it varies, i had full clearance (from being quite bad) after five weeks. But some it takes longer and a bit of adjusting the dosage. I didnt start on a low dose, am trying to remember what my dose was but i cant, it was a while ago

Have been put upto 100mg twice a day.  Was told if this doesnt work within next 6 weeks then they will up the dose once more.  I will be on this for total of 9 months then will have to come off it for 3.  If it returns in that time they may put me back on for another 9 months or change the medication type.  After this I will never be allowed back on ciclo....was told only ever allowed two 9 month stints on it.  I think that was pretty much everything I was told this morn.

Some derms seem not to like using this longterm, however if bloods etc are fine i see no reason (and nor did my original derm) why you cannot stay on longterm. I was on it for nearly three years, yes i did have to stop because my creatine levels started to rise and i was getting headaches but by then it was also starting to be less effective at keeping my skin clear.
My new derm didnt like it that i had been left on it that long and was of the opinion it shouldnt be used for longer than six months
So it varies depending on who you see.
One thing i can say though is that when you are taken off it you should expect a major flare up, i dont know if this can be minimized by weaning off gradually, a question worth asking

I live in Plymouth....I think it may have a lot to do with funding (and these can change from county to county).  Ciclosporin is apparently one of the more expensive drugs.  I was told it would be short term from the outset so I wasnt surprised by todays news.  Is the rebound worse the longer you are on it?

I dont think so but i certainly wondered at the time if it could be lessened by coming off it gradually. Its the same with any of these drugs and usually there will be a 'wash out' period before going on to something else. Questions worth remembering to ask
