Advice re Ciclosporin
« on: January 19, 2012, 01:11:45 PM »
Hi All,  :)

Just joined the forum, have been reading some of the posts and i just need some advise. I have been taking ciclosporin for 16 months now and have been almost clear up until about two weeks ago when I went to my gp for regular bloods and to check blood pressure, she said my blood pressure was quite high and that my kidneys were under a little strain. I had been taken 150mg morning and 150mg at night as perscribed by derm at start. I phoned my derm and he advised me to reduce the amount to 150mg per day so I have been doing that the past two weeks and I have discovered a lot of small little spots of psoriasis on the backs of my legs and arms and across my belly. My scalp has also flared up a lot and it is totally covered at the moment. I have an app with derm next monday and i'm not sure what he is going to tell me. Just wondering if anyone else on cyclosporin had a similar experience or flare up like this and how long did it last?

I was on 300mg a day and then they upped me to 400mg a day after a flare up.
I stopped taking cyclo altogether for the first week in new year (I wasn't advised to, I was just having a strop with the stuff) and in that week the patches I had that weren't cleared up were bright red and very very itchy and I had some smaller patcher reoccurring.
I would prepare yourself to be told to stop taking Cyclo... perhaps there are other options out there for you. Cyclo is rarely a long-term thing and if it effecting your kidneys and BP, that's concerning.

Of course your derm will have the best solution - Best of luck on Monday xx

Hi Bimp thanks for the reply, to be honest I think he will take me off the ciclosporin as it was only supposed to be short term solution. I was on mtx before this for over 3 years and it worked very well I was almost completely clear except for a few patches on scalp. However the constant tirdness and hair loss was just getting too much as I was on quite a high dose. Are you still taking the ciclosporin or have you changed to something else?

I'm still on Cyclo, still 400mgs a day but my blood tests are normal and my BP is no higher than usual.
I do hope to move onto something else when I see my Derm in March because the patches on my arms are refusing to move and can be quite painful.
I was on MTX before for maybe 6 months but my liver didn't agree with it so well. I didn't have too much hairloss and only felt ill the day I took it.
