Been to see new dermie
« on: June 22, 2009, 01:26:57 PM »
I went to see the private dermie today and he has perscribed cyclosparin. Can any of you tell me what your experiences are of this drug?

I now face another challenge, getting the dr to get blood out of me...this rarely happens as my veins shut down. oh well I will try and hope.

Hi, sorry don't know much about cyclosporin myself though my daughter was on it for a while and felt a bit sicky. I'm interested though cos my dermy has suggested cyclosporin if mtx doesn't work for me. Have you already tried mtx?
Yer, it's not fun giving blood is it? My veins don't want to be found, mind you don't blame em.

I have not tried MTX. That is what my last dermie was going to look into perscribing before I left them and went to this one. My sister is on C and I am not sure on how effective I would say it is on her. It seems that she just has a continual red scars which never go, as opposed to the actual flakes. However I have not really spoken much to her about this so it may be better then it seems from what I see of it. This new dermie doesnt believe that MTX works, so he said he will keep me on C for a year, do MTX for 1 month(just to say that he has tried it, but he knows it will not work!) then move me onto the biologicals. He agreed with me that it is a shame that I can not have PUVA or light therapy as he believes it would work...damn these fits!
I think i maybe do not even have veins...and if I do they suffer from either anorexia and therefore too small to be found, or else think its fun to play hide and seek with the nurses! ;D

Does he want to try you on cyclosporin for your P or PA or both?

He did not metion my PA, so I am presuming it is just for my P. Since my fits rule out many treatments I am very limited. I just was looking into it and it seems like it will possibly help with my PA...I am crossing fingers - I havent been able to sit in the regular sitting position for more than 10 minutes in years (I have to lay with my legs up or stand as it hurts my knees too much).

That must be rotten for you. Lets hope you can kill two birds with one stone with the cyclosporin and get some relief. My daughter was on it for about 4 months as well as tons of other medication so the nausea could have been a mixture of all the drugs.

She's ok now, had severe flex p and was bedridden for 5 mths.  It's me thats starting the mtx for pa, husband suffers from p as well so there wasn't much hope for her, just hope my son doesn't start with it.

Good luck!

That is awful that she ended up in such a state, glad she is better now. Hope the MTX works for you. x

my Dh was on Cyclosporin for 6 months. He had very tingly fingers and toes and when he got cold, they would hurt as if they had been out in the cold and then moved quickly into the heat. Otherwise it was fine. Unfortunately it didnt clear Ps at all in the time he was on it. Sorry to be negative but every experience is different isnt it. x
