Biologicals and guidelines...assistance needed
« on: October 23, 2008, 03:48:11 PM »
Hi folks....
Just a  quick one for those in the know!!

Those who dont know my history briefly here we go

P for 20 years used Methatrexate, cyclo, puva, uvb, tar treatment, all topicals known to man and in patient treatment. Had PA for 4 years on Methatrexate which helped PA but no effect on P.

Saw derm in July -  i was (and still am pregnant) she said i would be candidate for biologicals if i wasnt pregnant, so we embarked on UVB. After 6 sessions i started to clear dramatically just in time for my hols :) then suffered massive reboung whilst on hols, anyway now i am 30 odd treatments in and although the p is undeniably better its nowhere near clear.

Due to my history both me and derm know the minute i stop uvb i will get rebound within a very short period of time so she is going to try and keep me on a seesion or 2 a week if it helps my due date - or this was the when i last saw her
She did offer another cycle of cyclo as a last resort but being preg didnt wanna go down that route and the last time i took it it didnt have a massive impact although the 2 times previously it worked a treat

I am due to have baby in 6 weeks and due to see derm next Friday. I finally found myself a good derm thank god and she said we will discuss bios at next app in prep for when baby is born.

I have searched here and the net to l,ook at what bios are good for pa and p - been free of pa since got pregnant -yeah!! But know it will return with savageness as soona s baby is born :(

What do i need to be asking for? Will she only treat me with bios for skin, as i know some have impact on skin, some on skin and bones.

Due to NICE guidelines etc will she be able to automatically offer me bios for skin and bones, or do i have to try a skin only benefit one 1st? can i not automatically go on one to assit both ie 2 birds one stone hopefully situ!

Not too sure i have made myself very clear..but hope you can asssit!

hi, Angela

if your derm had no option but to prescribe light treatment while your pregnant
i am sure she will be able to prescribe a bio if there is no option even a combination of them

It'll be Enbrel (Etanercept) first...this is what NICE decree!

And this is an anti-TNF, so for bones and skin.

Very best for the new arrival!
