Chest x ray
« on: July 22, 2009, 08:45:43 PM »
I called GP today to check they had got the perscription of MTX ready for me to start shortly and the Dr said I need a chest x ray, standard practice apparently, and seemed surprised the consultant hadn't told me about it. In fact consultant has told me nothing about MTX, other than it wont work!
Is it me or do all consultants live in a bubble ;D

hi, ya

i always thought the protocol was  if chest xray/bloods  are ok
you then  sign the consent form
but all consultants think their  bed side manner & treatment regime  & protocol is the best
! do consultants live in  a bubble  :-\ more like cuckoo land

Hi xausted,

I was recently told that I would start MTX, no information passed to me, next thing meeting over and bundledded off to x-ray for chest x-ray(that was after I had practically begged for pain relief) since reading up, have found that this is definately protocol.  Have they checked yopur bloods first?

David, what consent form?????

Consent form? What? I have signed nothing.!!!!! :o
Consultant said we will try it and packed me off with a letter to GP for him to write a perscription. It was the Dr that flagged the chest xray..which I have been for today and even the nurses seemed bemused by it all. I had to ask when I could start MTX if it was going to take 14 days to get results from x ray...they came back and said they would rush results through for tommorrow or Monday.
The Dr asked about bloods but told them I had been having them done at hospital for Cyclo so they said I do not need another one done, just to tell the hospital to forward on the blood tests in the future

I was also packed off with a note from the consultant for the GP after the xhest x-ray . Handed in to surgery on the Friday then picked up meds from chemist on the Monday with a written note on it to see nurse for weekly bloods.  I was not told to wait on results of xray!!!

Do they actually know what they are doing?

Needless to say have not started MTX yet, dose is 7.5 mg's. Worried about the swine flu implications. Just last night there was a woman rushed to Sweden from my County. Local newspapers have highlighted that doctorsd surgerys are playing it down to the extent that a family of four had been trying to get diagnosed for 2 weeks and could not then the 18yr old boy was rushed to hospital with phnemonia and the hospital diagnosed swine flu. What hope do we have?

P'd off shazzy.

I didn't have an x-ray, but yes I had to sign a consent form. Every single doctor seems to do it a different way and if you point this out to one you just get told that his/her way is better than any other  ::)

Looks like just another example of the vast difference in the way MTX is prescribed by different doctors.

It's about time that there are firm guidlines set down regarding this potent drug. Specificly test's are to be carried out prior to commencement of treatment. Then there should be defined periods between blood tests and a universal policy with regards to as and when and how much folic acid should be taken.
